shes lookin out the window while hes sleepin in the bed
a buckshot got him now his bed sheets are red
got to find a doctor to pull out the lead
otherwise her man will soon be dead

she knows that there a comin to take away her man
they said he put his saddle on another mans brand
she knows that he cant shoot a gun he can barely stand
and she aint gona let them get away with what they planned

shes standin in the moonlight
with a 45 smokin in her hand
they rode in at midnight headin in to take away her man
so she stands in the moonlight
with a 45 smokin in her hand

she knows that they're all tellin lies she finds his old gun
they'll go away and make a life when this all is done
she knows that theres no givin up once its all begun
shes got to catch them by surprise when its five to one

she tells them that hes gone she thinks he might be dead
but hes aimin through the window with a shotgun in his bed
she reaches down into her dress and fires off the lead
the shotgun blasts the glass away and now the men are dead

shes standin in the moonlight
with a 45 smokin in her hand
they rode in at midnight headin in to take away her man
so shes standin in the moonlight
with a 45 smokin in her hand

the moon is out lihgtin up everything they'd done
he yells out through the window i love you but its time to run
she said i did this all for you to show you im the one
that you can trust to be at your side until kingdom come

he looked out the window at the men that had died
he felt no remorse for the men that had lied
and came to his home to try and take his life
he stared out the window with love in his eyes

shes standin in the moonlight
with a 45 smokin in her hand
they rode in at midnight headin in to take away her man
shes standin in the moonlight
with a 45 smokin in her hand
they rode in at midnight headin in to take away her man
so she stands in the moonlight
with a 45 smokin in her hand

4th Of July

pack it down and send it straight
is it luck or is it fate
live your life bound in chains
leave your body filled with shame

some will come accross the sea
wherin' red and soon they'll be
marchin in with battle cries
fightin dyin for the 4th of july
fightin dyin for the 4th of july

the king is dead in our heads
soon these chains we will shed
we told them no one has to die
but were fightin dyin for the 4th of july

one by land two by sea
grab your guns and follow me
peace is somethin that we tried
now were fightin dyin for the 4th of july
fightin dyin for the 4th of july

sew a flag and write a song
as the soldiers march along
fireworks will light the sky
fightin dyin for the 4th of july

men march in and tell you how
to live your life and make you bow
now they run and that is why
we're fightin dyin for the 4th of july
fightin dyin for the 4th of july

1910

in 1910 i worked aboard a ship
but the ship is now gone at the bottom of the sea it sits
most of these men are wanted by somebodies law
with hard work and whiskey far away lands we saw

the only thing i know
they'll always come and go
but i never know them long enough to know

sittin in the leaves of a palm is where ill be
lookin down on the world sittin with the seaguls to see
past 10 weeks i think 3 ships went by
with fire and smoke and wavin and a screamin i tried

the only thing i know
they'll always come and go
but i never know them long enough to know

im trapped by water but i cant find nothin to drink
i wonder if im the only one that didn't sink
i try to stay alive eatin berries and bugs i find
ive lost a lot of weight and i think i mighta lost my mind

the only thing i know
they'll always come and go
but i never know them long enough to know

in 1910 i worked aboard a ship
but the ship is now gone at the bottom of the sea it sits

Ain't Gona Ride That Train

I'm tired of breaking my back
for a company that don't love me
they'd just as soon dump my body in the sea
so I'm walking out today
they can mail me my pay
cause i ain't gona ride that train no more

sittin in a university
the teacher is preachin to me
i thought i came here to learn how to multiply
but hes tellin me that god is dead
and hes tellin me how to vote
so i ain't gona ride that train no more

my womans the meanest thing
she wants a bigger rock for her ring
so i went outside and dug up the biggest rock i could find
then i threw it through the window of her car
and then i threw her out the door
cause i ain't gona ride that train no more

i sold everything i owned
i hopped a train destination unknown
I'm far away from woman that want my gold
no boss is gona take my soul
no teachers gona wash my brain
I'm gona ride this train until i die
I'm gona ride this train until i die

All The LIttle Planets

as he flys through the outer space
seems to be spinning a trace
like an animal that leaves a path
creatures of habit could feel the rath
from painting a picture a little too clear
like a man with rifle aiming for a dear
maybe hes seen us but we've not seen him
though words have been told of saucers that spin
some have taken to glue and lights
together they show the crudeness of fright
it doesnt take much to widen the eyes
with the subject of green men flying in the skies
beems of light shot from a gun
some bring death while others just stun
the eerie whistle from the metal bird
in the split of a second from clear to blurred
blasting through the stars by the sun and moon
to the land of oz in a fresh baloon
the relaxing pulse of the radio sounds
from the beacon that floats above sleeping towns
static is coming from a mans garage
desperately hoping it was more than a mirage
all the little planets sitting high up above
we'll still wonder if its danger or its love

Alone With You

sometimes when i sit in my room
all i can do is think of you
think of the things i cant wait to do
and i know that you do the same
sometimes when i leigh in my bed
sleep cant be found with you in my head
ill toss and turn all through the night
cause i cant wait to be

alone with you
and you alone with me
so we can be everything we can be

when im at school taking a test
i can't put my thoughts to a rest
i see your face your hair and your eyes
and i know that you do the same
your locker i meet you out in the hall
a heart with our names carved in the wall
i dream of tonight when you will be mine
cause i cant wait to be

alone with you
and you alone with me
so we can be everything we can be

knock on your door and ring on the bell
your father is there i know he can tell
the only thing on my mind is you
and he knows you feel the same
stands by the fire puffing his pipe
i know by his eyes he'll wait up tonight
i hurry goodbyes and head to the car
cause i cant wait to be

alone with you
and you alone with me
so we can be everything we can beq
Always Singin The Blues

lay me down
cause i don't need to be awake no more today
been givin as much as i can take

no more pain
been drinkin away the memories of my yesterdays
and now I've lost who i used to be

tell me my luck will change tomorrow
let me start it all brand new
if you took a walk on e day in my shoes
you'd know why I'm always singin the blues

hello my friend
are you here to love me or hurt me again
but how will i ever know the truth

take my hand
is what you said to me when i fell for you
but i can't fall down that hard again

tell me my luck will change tomorrow
let me start it all brand new
if you took a walk on e day in my shoes
you'd know why I'm always singin the blues

goodbye my friend
i guess i shoulda known that you'd do it again
but now I'm here left spinnin in my head

goodnight again
cause i don't need to be awake no more today
been givin as much as i can take

tell me my luck will change tomorrow
let me start it all brand new
if you took a walk on e day in my shoes
you'd know why I'm always singin the blues
you'd know why I'm always singin the blues
you'd see why I'm always singin the blues
Another One Like Me

he left his woman today
when he turned round to wave
she was yellin his way
and he heard her say

you can sail across the sea
you can look up in the sky
you can look up in the trees
but your never gona find another one like me

he lost his job today
and he collected his pay
as he lit the gasoline
someone heard him say

you can sail across the sea
you can look up in the sky
you can look up in the trees
but your never gona find another one like me

with a rope around his neck
they sentenced him to death
on your last day
do you have anything to say

you can sail across the sea
you can look up in the sky
you can look up in the trees
but your never gona find another one like me

Army Of Queens (The Factory)

cloned soldiers hide
in masks of self dinsdane
they are all the same
in search of wealth and fame
marching one by one
hoping that they'll see
what they really need
inside of you and me

listen to the sound
of the factory machines
they are building one by one
an army
an army of queens

they live in the night
preditors and prey
swimming through the room
hungry for a stray
they will never need
too much more than gold
they can always buy
a friend to love and hold

listen to the sound
of the factory machines
they are building one by one
an army
an army of queens

Away From This Desert

I'm sitting out in the desert
away from my family and friends
and nobody knows what I've been through
but my gun and these other shaved heads

my mother gave me her rosary
my father gave me his respect
and i hold them both very closely
cause out here they're all that i have

take me away from this desert
bring me my family and home
wake me up from this nightmare
and mother I'm coming home
mother I'm coming home

i once was my mother's little baby
but now I'm a killing machine
i wake up to crossfire and mortars
and i fall asleep to my brother's screams

i wonder what i did in my pastlife
i must have not done too well
but thanks to the u.s.m.c.
now i know what it will be like in hell

take me away from this desert
bring me my family and home
wake me up from this nightmare
and mother I'm coming home
mother I'm coming home

take me away from this desert
bring me my family and home
wake me up from this nightmare
and mother I'm coming home
mother I'm coming home

Axcalibur

carries it around with a
barbed wire strap
sing you a tune
before the attack
the grusomeness of
the wild man
pickin on the strings of an
axe in hand
sleepin with the stars while
the fire dies
hunger wakes up in the
hiding eyes
of the hunter in the bushes
watchin his prey
if you hear this tune then hes
on his way

some say he was
born down south
but truth is rare from
the gossips mouth
louisiana women
louisiana  man
found deep down in
louisiana sand
she used to sing out on a
river boat queen
screams were muffled by the
whistle of steam
they heard the tune played
by the man
pickin on the strings of an
axe in hand

the strings are picked to
a deadly tune
a little too happy for an
axe of doom
carries it around with a
barbed wire strap
sing you a tune
before the attack
no one knows the face
of the man
pickin on the strings of an
axe in hand
hunter in the bushes
watchin his prey
if you hear this tune then hes
on his way

Battle Of Seven Pines

mama i try not to cry
but two long years i spent with
michael, tom and johnny too
fightin side by side
fightin side by side
but i come back to our home town
ridin all alone i
lost my friends to the devils hand
at the battle of seven pines
the battle of seven pines

if you think they're dead and gone
never see them again then
let me tell you child now
they're livin in the wind
they're livin in the wind

i hold on to a glass of smiles
people sing and dance but
i can't join this world again
got too much on my mind
too much on my mind
i used to laugh just like a fool
so did all my friends
but i lost them all with my smile
at the battle of seven pines
the battle of seven pines

if you think they're dead and gone
never see them again then
let me tell you child now
they're livin in the wind
they're livin in the wind

i passed by johnny's girl
he had before the war and
she fell into my arms and cried
but she cannot be mine
she cannot be mine
she makes me think of my friend
and i know she feels the same way
but nothins bringin johnny back
from the battle of seven pines
the battle of seven pines

if you think hes dead and gone
never see him again then
let me tell you child now
he’s livin in the wind
he’s livin in the wind
they're livin in the wind

Bay Of The Devils Hounds

the bay of the devils hounds
shields and swords blades of death
men with breath of smoke
steeds in steel stand tall and strong
while hands calm with stroke
kings and earls lords and dukes
men at arms and peasants found
waiting in the mud and snow for

the bay of the devils hounds

women kissed their men away
as if it were the last
for some a child not yet seen day
born after father past
beasts of north have found their way
pawns await the sound
of pounding drums screams of men and

the bay of the devils hounds

the general struts the line on horse
a speach prepared and stale
his words were brought to inspire strength
though he knows they soon will fail
in his sweat from anxious fear
a man could nearly drown
from the terror and the power brought by

the bay of the devils hounds

Beat Of My Own Drum

he came into to town and started talkin to a girl
he told her she was the prettiest that he'd ever seen in this world
she said she'd never seen him before is he just passin through town
he said ill be leavin here as soon as this whiskeys down

she looked him up and down again and noticed the way he dressed
he wore black from head to toe didnt wear his gun like the rest
she said where do you come from to stand so tall on your own
to roam through these hills with your gun and your horse alone

he said i march to the beat of my own drum
he said i march to the beat of my own drum

a man hopped on a train on his way headin west
a hand reached out to him and pulled him up by his vest
he said that his name was sam and he lived there on the train
he told the stranger everything from his happiness to his pains

he owned the biggest cattle ranch that could be found up north
married to a dance hall girl the prettiest that he could afford
but he gave up everthing to spend his life on the tracks
the stranger asked why he gave up everything but the clothes on his back

he said i march to the beat of my own drum
he said i march to the beat of my own drum

there was a soldier in the calvary in the indian wars
every day the seargant marched the man all around the fort
the soldier always marched a little slower than the rest
he ate slow and took his time with his uniform gettin dressed

but he was much smarter than the other men dressed in blue
the seargant always punished him and made him march through his shoes
the soldier kept marchin slow but stayin at a steady pace
the seargant yelled and begged him why till he was left blue in the face

he said i march to the beat of my own drum
he said i march to the beat of my own drum

Below The Sea

i was driving my car on the interstate
when an 18 wheeler took my life away
i went up to heaven but they didn't want me
so they sent me far down
below the sea

well that old devil welcomed me with open arms
he said have a seat have a drink with all his charm
i took a sip a my drink and i put up my feet
i said it ain't half bad down
below the sea

later that night i was dancin in a club
all them little devils dancin jitterbugs
there was a jazz band swingin in the strangest key
but everybody's dancin down
below the sea

i was dancin to a mambo with a red haired girl
she had a red dress and some red bone pearls
i tried to stop dancin all the devils looked at me
and said everybody's dancin down
below the sea

when i tried to stop dancin flames came from the floor
i pushed that devil woman back and i ran for the door
the devil just laughed and he called out to me
everybody's dancin down
below the sea

well that devil strolled up and he patted my back
he said now listen up here let me tell you jack
if you ever stop to move your gona burn from the heat
cause everybody's always dancin down
below the sea

Bikini

it was early on a sunday
no one knew they were around
birds were singing in the palms trees
but now theres fire on the ground

shes sittin in the sand in a bikini
while hes out there surfin on the waves
shes leighin in the shade under a palm tree
while hes out there surfin on the waves

men were sleepin in their hamicks
not ready for all the planes
but eyes are all opened up now
the sirens are calling out their names

shes sittin in the sand in a bikini
while hes out there surfin on the waves
shes leighin in the shade under a palm tree
while hes out there surfin on the waves

birds were flying all with red dots
painted on the feathers of their wings
no one had ever seen a bird like that
and no one knew they'd carry such a sting

shes sittin in the sand in a bikini
while hes out there surfin on the waves
shes leighin in the shade under a palm tree
while hes out there surfin on the waves

a fish swam in from oklahoma
and a fish from arizona too
but the birds flew in and sent them sinking
to sleep down in the ocean blue

shes sittin in the sand in a bikini
while hes out there surfin on the waves
shes leighin in the shade under a palm tree
while hes out there surfin on the waves

shes sittin in the sand in a bikini
while hes out there surfin on the waves
shes leighin in the shade under a palm tree
while hes out there surfin on the waves

Black Corvette

well they pulled up in front of her house knocked on her door
she opened up with high heels on and really not much more
she was a 10 at least the kind of girl you neeeded money for
she knew why they were there but the facts she ignored

they said we know your man was the one in that theft
he cleaned out the bank leavin nothin left
the guard saw the car but he never saw his face
can you tell us a little somethin about the man that we chace

she said hes just like his black corvette
she said hes just like his black corvette
she said hes just like his black corvette

they walked out to the back and sat down by the pool
her neck and her fingers were covered up in jewels
a man came out with a tray filled with drinks
she took a glass of champagne and snuck him a wink

we know that your man must be drivin far away
did he leave you here and tell you to stay
we'll end up findin him theres nothin you can do
so tell us somethin somethin we can use

she said hes just like his black corvette
she said hes just like his black corvette
she said hes just like his black corvette

she stood up and walked over to the waters edge
she knew the men were thinkin of her now instead
one of the men spilled his drink on himself
she knew where his mind was and it was nowhere else

the butler was standin watchin through the glass
a broken arm was faked a revolver in his cast
the men asked again can to tell us somethin more
she said theres one thing about him a woman cant ignore

she said hes just like his black corvette
she said hes just like his black corvette
she said hes just like his black corvette

they stood up frustrated but they thanked her for her time
if you think of somethin else dont be scared to drop a dime
she walked them out to the front door and said goodbye
while the butler was keepin a steady weather eye

when they left he came in and took off the cast
he said we've gota go before the chance has past
they went out to the garage and the motor started up
he said tell me again why you love me so much

cause your just like your black corvette
cause your just like your black corvette
she said hes just like his black corvette

Born Again Killer

well i woke up this morin with a gut full of rum
i stumbled up still in my boots still got on my gun
i work for the government i kill anything i please
im a born again killer and thats why they hired me

ill take away the name of a man in the street
ill throw it down into the mood and stomp it with my feet
i can spin and twist a story to bring you to your knees
im a born again killer and thats why they hired me

i stumbled up still in my boots still got on my gun

im a born again killer and thats why they hired me

Bride Of Frankenstein

build me a woman with long dark hair
with a quiet way of deep despair
with a heart  dug up from the deapest darkest grave

leave tonight for the cemetary
bring a wagon shovel i need to marry
a woman to the man that walks alone

shes the bride of frankenstein
shes the bride of frankenstein

i'll stich her body up clean and tight
her brain dug up in the dead of night
soon he'll have a woman to share love

waiting here for the lighting strike
to bring this queen of darkness life
the electric power screams through her veins

 shes the bride of frankenstein
shes the bride of frankenstein

her body stiffly sits up straight
we step back silent stare and wait
she moves her lips with a high and deadly moan

we hear a pounding down the hall
a low and lonely lovers call
nature tells them that they've just found love

 shes the bride of frankenstein
shes the bride of frankenstein

tryin to come apart

Brother Don't Bring In The Law

my brother took me down with a rusty knife
he'd caught me steelin by the fires light
he found a rock in the creek yesterday
because of that rock im bleedin today

our pans and hands have been workin for the past five years
findin just enough dust for beans and beer
our teeth were rotten and our hair grew long
but we were happy till i went wrong

brother don't go out a runnin searchin for the law
im a bleedin done deceivin
brother don't bring in the law

we sat by the fire and stared each other down
the blood on my clothes had started turnin brown
he told me he was thinkin about headin in to town
the sweat poored down my bloody frown

brother don't go out a runnin searchin for the law
im a bleedin done deceivin
brother don't bring in the law

he took into town about an hour ago
now i'm sittin by the fire on my own
i always had my brother at my side
till i lost all my human pride

brother don't go out a runnin searchin for the law
im a bleedin done deceivin
brother don't bring in the law
brother don't bring in the law
Bulletproof Desk

you point your finger sending away the rest

dont care how many you send away to death

you sit there safe at home beatin your chest

while your hidin behind that bullet proof desk
Burnin' Bridges

your burnin bridges burnin your them down to the ground
i hear the flames and i see the bridge is fallin down
your burnin bridges everywhere that you go
closin off the path to everyone you know

+so light your torches and spread around the kerosene
and watch the flames glow bright enough the whole world can see
they're marchin closer the whole town is lookin for you
they're comin down on you looks like your chances are few

your burnin bridges burnin your them down to the ground
i hear the flames and i see the bridge is fallin down
your burnin bridges everywhere that you go
closin off the path to everyone you know

+they've got the dogs out nothins gona stop them now
you keep a runnin think you'll get away some how
they've got their boots on marchin through the mud as they go
you think your hidin but your tracks will always show

your burnin bridges burnin your them down to the ground
i hear the flames and i see the bridge is fallin down
your burnin bridges everywhere that you go
closin off the path to everyone you know

+they've got a poster of your face and what you have done
ten thousand dollars now everybodies out on the run
they're searchin for you hopin that they'll be the one
to get the reward alive or dead with a gun

your burnin bridges burnin your them down to the ground
i hear the flames and i see the bridge is fallin down
your burnin bridges everywhere that you go
closin off the path to everyone you know

Cabin Fever

well ive got bad old cabin fever in my heart and soul
the snow has piled up and left me stranded in my home
i try standin on my head for a brand new view
i start countin dog hairs on my hound for somethin new

but warmth is movin in
by brain will slow its spin
and we'll be movin on
when this snow is gone
when this snow is gone

jumpin jacks and push ups i do just to pass the time
i think my dogs goin crazy listenin to me wine
i get dressed up like im goin on the town for drinks
but i end up in my old cabin drinkin for a week

but warmth is movin in
by brain will slow its spin
and we'll be movin on
when this snow is gone
when this snow is gone

i start talkin to the bear skin on the wooden floor
but he just leighs there starin at me blank and nothin more
the dear head on my wall i swear he thinks ive lost my mind
at least my heads not on a wall so i am doin fine

but warmth is movin in
by brain will slow its spin
and we'll be movin on
when this snow is gone
when this snow is gone

California Rose

we work our fingers to the bone
it's hard work mining for coal
the only thing that keeps us going on
is the voice in the rusted heart saloon
she's our california rose
california rose
california rose

even in the darkest place
the right song can put a smile on your face
just when you feel like giving up
her songs fill you with hope again
she's our california rose
california rose
california rose

two men died in the mines today
you never know when death is on his way
as they're lowered down into the ground
an angel sings in the rain
she's our california rose
california rose
california rose

no man will ask for her hand
shes here to keep us mining this land
we all need the voice of this rose
to sing us in to the sun
she's our california rose
california rose
california rose

down in the mines all day
feels like I'm diggin my own grave
hope to be up in the rusted heart again
to hear that woman sing away our pain
she's our california rose
california rose
california rose
california rose

Champagne Mountain

waitin in the dust of the land thats left
for the man the beast and gun
dog eats dog when the going gets tough
but a pack sends tough for the run

a woman on the hill in a horse drawn carrage
when lighting torn the sky
thunder pounded down on champagne mountain
if you hear another story they lie

well theres a poisonous flower at a trading post
that every man wants to meet
but her beauty and her smell'l send you straight to hell
while the devil waits down six feet

you tell her that your burnin like the powder in a gun
and now she lit the fuse
its flowin in your blood and its burnin in your eyes
and there nothin you can do

her name is champane and she'll serve you drinks
and she'll laugh at your jokes for fun
while a man plays jealous in the shadow of the room and hes
ready for a fight with gun

a woman on the hill in a horse drawn carrage
when lighting torn the sky
thunder pounded down on champagne mountain
if you hear another story they lie

Cheers To No More Tears

captain o captain
this ship we are sailing
is sinking to the bottom of the sea
but dont tell the sailors
that we will all die
just feed them their whiskey
and feed them some lies

in the storm that was blowing
our ship wasn't showing
the damage of the rocks in the waves
but the men dont need knowing
that we are all dying
let them go drunk into their graves

some men have woman
and some men have children
some men have a home and a farm
but theres no good in telling
them that we are all dying
so lets drink and sink to our graves

there will be no crying
cause they dont know they're dying
they'll sink with a grin on their face
so ill poor you some whiskey
and you'll poor me some rum
so we can smile as we leave this place

so heres a cheers to no more tears
heres a cheers to dying
heres a cheers to no more fears
while our ship sails us into our graves

China Town

well i walked into the kitchen and im sittin here
tryin to hide the fact that ive been drinkin beer
she'd been out a town runnin round with her friends
while i was back home seein if hell would bend

pullin on the slots with a cheap cigar
tryin to remember where i left my car
i guess i must a stumbled crossed that state line
cause they threw me in the slammer slapped me with a fine

she said now
where were you last saturday night
were you really home layin in your bed
i heard that you were out with a blonde haired girl
down in china town instead

well i headed for the city once i cleared my head
i went down to the ocean for some chowder and bread
i filled up my belly now im ready to go
then i headed to the bank and grabbed myslef some dough

it seemed like everybody in the world was out
fireworks were poppin as i looked about
found myslef a pub and really let it go
i got into a fight and ended up on the floor

she said now
where were you last saturday night
were you really home layin in your bed
i heard that you were out with a blonde haired girl
down in china town instead

i found myslef a floatin on a fishin boat
don't know how i lost my shoes and brand new coat
theres a segal lookin at me and im starin back
before he flew away i swear i heard him laugh

i climbed into my bed and then i went to sleep
there was lipstick on my forehead and some on my cheek
i don't remember meetin anyone one like that
but now shes walkin over with a wooden bat

she said now
where were you last saturday night
were you really home layin in your bed
i heard that you were out with a blonde haired girl
down in china town instead

now tell me
where were you last saturday night
were you really home layin in your bed
i heard that you were out with a blonde haired girl
down in china town instead

Crystal Ball (comin home)

so tell me ill be comin home

so tell me ill be comin home

so tell me ill be comin home

dark hair covered up with a scarf

candle lit faces glowin in the dark

the maddam sits down and holds out her arm

says i know that you are weary you traveled so far

a light grew brighter on the table in the room

it glowed like the sun when the clock hits noon

her hands played around dancin in the glow

maybe for a reason or maybe just show

so tell me ill be comin home

so tell me ill be comin home

so tell me ill be comin home

were you ever in a spot where somethin seemed real

started spinnin gears in your head like wheels

you know that you've been told that this cant exist

but now really startin to fall for the myth

the death coach is comin ridin for a life

death sneaks in like the blade on a knife

worry youself to an ealry grave

see how long till your name will fade

so tell me ill be comin home

so tell me ill be comin home

so tell me ill be comin home

lookin in the ball an ocean i see

standin in the middle of a ship is me

headin to a land as foreign as the moon

waitin for judgent glory or doom

a beast is alive with sheep that follow

his brain is big but his hearts left hollow

you can hear the goose when it marches in step

evil is comin but death not yet

so tell me ill be comin home

so tell me ill be comin home

so tell me ill be comin home

Cupid

a trucker from L.A.
a diner waitress there
stoppin on his way
with a tire to repair
he stopped in for a bight
she finally found a man
had to stay the night
but now hes cross the land

i chose a mate for you
a gift of love from me
i shot my arrow true
but tears now i see
so tell me why don't you want them anymore
tell me why don't you want them anymore

out walkin her dog
not expectin to find love
she saw him through the fog
she saw him drop his glove
he said thanks and smiled
said lets get out of the snow
we can warm up for a while
with love you never know

i chose a mate for you
a gift of love from me
i shot my arrow true
but tears now i see
so tell me why don't you want them anymore
tell me why don't you want them anymore

the drummer in a band
she knew he was the one
she fell as hard as you can
when the conert was all done
he said come with me
her eyes were full of love
i know we're meant to be
but i guess thats not enough

i chose a mate for you
a gift of love from me
i shot my arrow true
but tears now i see
so tell me why don't you want them anymore
tell me why don't you want them anymore

Daisy In The Dust

Well I heard that her man died back in 61
From a ball that was packed down in a union gun
Well some say she had no family left to love
So she headed out west where the stars were bright above
She works her land just like a man don’t need nobodies help
And she hangs an ivory handled 44 on her belt
Here face is soft an pretty like a privileged eastern girl
But she chose to make her life in a self reliant world

Shes a daisy in the dust
Shes a daisy in the dust
Daisy in the dust

Well the blacksmiths wife swears she heard she killed a man
And headed far out west to hide her bloody hands
Some say that’s why she lives so far away
Knowin that shes gona be found out some day
But I don’t care what they say about that womans name
Killer or a drifter id love her all the same
Cause I can tell shes really hidin from love
Far out on her dusty land with mountains up above

Shes a daisy in the dust
Shes a daisy in the dust
Daisy in the dust

Well I was talkin to the barber and this it what he said
He heard she was a governors wife but ran away and fled
the politics and hypocryts drove her far away
to find herself an honest life and work for honest pay
some day when she stops in town I’ll ask to court her hand
and maybe someday I can help to work her land
but I don’t know if she even wants to love again
but her beauty brings convenience of her choice of men

shes a daisy in the dust
shes a daisy in the dust
daisy in the dust

Daughter

met her back a few years ago
knew that i would love her
so i come to ask the hand
of your only daughter

I sold my guitar and an amp
so i could by a diamond
and now i stand here for the hand
of your only daughter

if you say no to me
then i will keep on tryin
cause i can't live without the hand
of your only daughter

i've got a son and another one
but you say that you love her
shes the only one i got
shes my only daughter

but i know your the one for her
you'll watch over my daughter
so now i offer you my hand
and now you call me father

i know that you love her so
and i know she loves her father
i will take good care of her
i love your only daughter
i will take good care of her
i love your only daughter

Daydreamin'

im just passin time with a daydream

maybe ill be dreamin of you

im just passin time with a daydream

maybe ill be dreamin of you

i walked into the class and took my seat down next to you

the teacher was a talkin bout some things ill never use

i stretched my legs and feet out gettin ready for a dream

the teacher turns the lights out puts a movie on the screan

im just passin time with a daydream

maybe ill be dreamin of you

im just passin time with a daydream

maybe ill be dreamin of you

i walked on down the hallways headin straight for my next class

algebra has always helped to send me dreamin fast

the teacher is a callin roll and when she hits my name

ill be far away a dancin with you in my brain

im just passin time with a daydream

maybe ill be dreamin of you

im just passin time with a daydream

maybe ill be dreamin of you

the bus driver is watchin and his voice is standin by

for every boy and girl thats got some trouble in their eye

but i dont want no trouble i just want to think of you

and when i am a walkin home you know just what ill do

im just passin time with a daydream

maybe ill be dreamin of you

im just passin time with a daydream

maybe ill be dreamin of you

Decent Set Of Binoculars

baby do you see me out here waitin for you
baby maybe some day maybe you'll see me too

baby sometimes i wonder as i look at you through a decent set of binoculars
what you'd do if you ever saw me here
would you wave and smile and maybe blow me a kiss
or would you run and scream and call the cops
and have me thrown in jail
well you don't need to do that i'm a nice guy sometimes
and i can tell your a nice girl through this decent set of binoculars
so dont be a stranger invite me in sometime

baby do you see me out here waitin for you
baby maybe some day maybe you'll see me too

when i see you dancin around there in your kitchen
i like to think uh you're listenting to my favorite band
and maybe you see me and want me to knock on your door and dance around too
sometimes when im at home dancin in my kitchen
i think maybe your out there in a bush somewhere with a decent set of binoculars watchin me
but maybe im just crazy ha nah that aint it

baby do you see me out here waitin for you
baby maybe some day maybe you'll see me too

well as im sittin here looking at you through a decent set of binoculars
i think i hear a siren maybe a cat got caught up in a tree or something
no it looks like the police maybe they save cats too i dont know
well im standing here in handcuffs now and i dont know what the problem is
i dont see a cat anywhere or even a tree
as im loaded into the back of the car i turn my head around for one last look
but i cant see anything
without a decent set of binoculars

baby do you see me out here waitin for you
baby maybe some day maybe you'll see me too

Devil In Heaven

are you a devil in heaven or an angel in hell
are you a devil in heaven or an angel in hell

they drank themselves drunk and then they shot the sheriff down
they headed to the hotel and they burnt it to the ground
no one even knew that they were comin' into town
their horses felt like dynamite blastin' in the ground
now theres seven people swimmin' at the bottom of the well
are you a devil in heaven or an angel in hell
are you a devil in heaven or an angel in hell

i locked the door and windows in my cabin in the woods
i just hear the wind not the crickets like i should
i know that their all out there and they don't want me alive
i pray with my rosary i know i soon will die
the cabin i once loved is now a prison cell
are you a devil in heaven or an angel in hell
are you a devil in heaven or an angel in hell

wolves are howlin' at the moon and tearin' at the meat
sometimes it takes a life for another life to eat
everywhere you look theres a wolf behind your back
unless you've got a horse and gun your food for the pack
the day that death will call on you you can't never tell
are you a devil in heaven or an angel in hell
are you a devil in heaven or an angel in hell

Diamond Eyes

ive been out ridin for a month too long

cause shes my diamond eyes

i hear some men a sayin insultin things
about my girl so i step into the ring

Distant Gold

he- lived in camp all on his own
with a shovel and a pick he'd dig
didnt- know how long it would take him there
to find the gold that nature hid
but he- knew it was there so he chipped away
with little bits of dust hed find
a- nugget hed hold often enough
to keep him drivin body and mind

the- whole town would laugh and call him a fool
that he'd spend his life diggin away
but he- knew if he kept on like a machine
that it would all be worth the pain
if he- worked hard enough that finally some day
hed kick up his feet and smile
hed be- full of pride that the work hed done
was all finally worth the while

it- may be a week it may be a month
it could be many more long years
but hed- never be happy if he didnt try
with his life blood sweat and tears
swingin that pick and breakin his back
siften through all that soil
he- knew if it came without all the work
hed never enjoy the spoils

Don't Let The Ball Roll Down The Hill

dont let the ball roll down the hill
dont let the ball roll down
dont let the ball roll down the hill
dont let the ball roll down

if i told once then i told you twice
you will always be my friend
sometimes i feel like somethin ain't right
and everythings comin to end

just when i feel like theres no more light
somebody comes and opens a door
they look inside and say everythings fine
you don't need to worry no more

just- dont let the ball roll down the hill
dont let the ball roll down
dont let the ball roll down the hill
dont let the ball roll down

well somtimes i like to roll a ball
out to the edge of a hill
see how close i can get to the edge
maybe its just a thrill

i know maybe just one of these days
i might lose it over the edge
maybe i just want to see how real
the ball and hill really is

just- dont let the ball roll down the hill
dont let the ball roll down
dont let the ball roll down the hill
dont let the ball roll down

we used to play ball on a hill up high
standin at the top with my friends
but the ball went down and so did buck
we never did see him again

just when you feel like theres no more light
somebody comes and opens a door
they look inside and say everythings fine
you don't need to worry no more

just- dont let the ball roll down the hill
dont let the ball roll down
dont let the ball roll down the hill
dont let the ball roll down
Don't Take It Out On Me

stuck in traffic ac's broke
sittin in the heat it aint no joke
but don't come home just to take it out on me

spent your day waitin in line
people takin up your time
but don't come home just to take it out on me

well i heard your car broke down
had to get it towed in town
but don't come home just to take it out on me

you went out drinkin with your friends
cat fight brought the night to end
but don't come home just to take it out on me

lost your keys and you were late
lost your job with the state
but don't come home just to take it out on me

you got a ticket for your speed
from a sherriff you didnt see
so don't come home just to take it out on me

this dogs tail dont always wag
i ain't no human punching bag
so don't come home just to take it out on me
don't come home just to take it out on me
so don't come home just to take it out on me

Down Down Down

wind is blowin in his wide old (wild) eyes
tryin not shake in his bones
but his minds made up and hes gona try and steal
the king of the mountains throne

Down down down goes the man to the ground
down down down goes the man
Down down down goes the man to the ground
down down down goes the man

you think machines can save your life but
your in wild lands
so bow your head cause now you know your no
match for natures hands

the ad in the paper said its his right of way so he
ordered it and waited for the stage
he opened the box and he opened his mouth started
braggin bout the monster he would sleigh

Down down down goes a man to the ground
down down down goes a man
Down down down goes a man to the ground
down down down goes a man

he stopped halfway and he built a fire gona
start back on the tracks
in the mornin hill wake and he'll hike some more and he's
sure that he'll be comin back

Down down down goes the man to the ground
down down down goes the man
Down down down goes a man to the ground
down down down goes the man

he tied his laces with a hat on head and
picked up the tool he bought
as he climbed up higher he started to see that
everything wasn't like he thought

he turned the corner and starin at him was the
beast that he had tracked
it raised up high and he realised that now its
too late to turn back

Down down down goes the man to the ground
down down down goes the man
Down down down goes the man to the ground
down down down goes the man

Down In Texas

im writing my love down in texas
saying i love you and im on my way
soon i'll be holdin you close dear
and in my arms you'll always stay

six years i spent behind iron bars
scrathin the wall countin days
some say to stay on the high roads
and they say that crime never pays

when i was a young man
i rode with the Valentine Kid
but one of our men was a ranger
and in our camp he lied and hid

so im writing my love down in texas
saying i love you and im on my way
soon i'll be holdin you close dear
and in my arms you'll always stay

i walked out the gate with my saddle
and the clothes i wore in younger days
from the cut of my clothes i remember
my crazy and wilder ways

the judge said i paid all my debts off
and let me out of my cage
he said i recommend son now
to move on turn past this page

im writing my love down in texas
saying i love you and im on my way
soon i'll be holdin you close dear
and in my arms you'll always stay

the Valentine Kid said to follow
he knew a bank in new mexico
he said bring your grit and your rifle
screamin and drinkin we'll go

i said this is where our paths split
good luck to you and your bank
we both had a hit off the bottle
to goodbyes and friendship we drank

im writing my love down in texas
saying i love you and im on my way
soon i'll be holdin you close dear
and in my arms you'll always stay

me and Jim we went out
and tried to rob a stage
but the man up top with the scattered shot
sent Jim into his grave

who will go to the side where the river flows
hope at least maybe some, maybe some, maybe some

the buzzards fly a circled path
waitin' for a meal
cause on the ground the buzzards see
twenty men poundin' steel

nature tells them that we are weak
and maybe soon to die
but i hope at least they'll mark the place
where my body soon will lie

who will go to the side where the river flows
hope at least maybe some, maybe some, maybe some

15 years of draggin' chains
and workin' through the pain
10 more years but i don't know
if i'll make it from these chains

cause i am weak and i am tired
of livin' with these chains
but i'll push on just in case
i'll someday wear no chains

who will go to the side where the river flows
hope at least maybe some, maybe some, maybe some

Driftin' Man

i see them all in the meetin house

laughin and a talkin away

but i dont need all that socializin

im fine out here in the rain

im fine out her in the rain

i pulled out the chord on my telephone

i took my phone and through it away

and i dont have to hear it ring again

cause im fine out here in the rain

im fine out here in the rain

cause i was born a driften man

stayin far from the trend

and ill keep on a driven through

till i find the end

if you pick me up then you let me down

im not your little toy to hold

when you set me down then ill run away

cause im fine out here in the cold

im fine out here in the cold

the fire burns with a healthy flame

in your hand the matches you hold

but lock doors cause i aint comin in

im fine out here in the cold

im fine out here in the cold

cause i was born a driften man

stayin far from the trend

and ill keep on a driven through

till i find the end

the world might say that its gota be like this

but i go against the things that are known

i float out in the ocean so far

and im fine out here on my own

im fine out here on my own

ships come by a wavin their hands

sayin we'll teach you all the things to be known

but i just wave back a friendly goodbye

cause im fine out here on my own

im fine out here on my own

cause i was born a driften man

stayin far from the trend

and ill keep on a driven through

till i find the end

Drivin' In Reverse

im drivin through this canyon that ive found

all i can hear is the caotic modern sounds

i think that people are quickly losin their minds

tryin desperately to keep up with times

so as i hit the brakes i turn my head

drop it down into reverse instead

so tell the past im here and on my way

quickly headin back to better days

cause my hearts calling back from the good old days

i was out on the old race track in town

wathcin all the cars blastin around

everyone was hurryin to get nowhere

i felt like a fool following them all there

so as i hit the brakes i turn my head

drop it down into reverse instead

so tell the past im here and on my way

quickly headin back to better days

cause my hearts calling back from the good old days

i was drivin along when i saw the flames up ahead

so i turned myself around and started back instead

soon the air would fill with the smell of sheep

i guess just a few could feel that burnin heat

so as i hit the brakes i turn my head

drop it down into reverse instead

so tell the past im here and on my way

quickly headin back to better days

cause my hearts calling back from the good old days

cause my hearts calling back for the good old days

 Duel Of Drycreek

two men stand above the grass
the men will turn and face
the sound of the gun and the hell it brings
while their seconds stand in place
now they march off back to back
while the seconds counting pace
soon one man will drop to grass
from a glove that was struck to face

tell me now that you love this man
and i will go away
but tell me now that your loves for me
and i will fight and stay

they met at dawn the sky still dark
just a silhouette to trace
open the box and and reach down in
and lift your tool from case
fill with powder and drop ball in
and tell it what to chase
soon one man will fall to grass
from a glove that was struck to face

tell me now that you love this man
and i will go away
but tell me now that your loves for me
and i will fight and stay

the tavern was filled up with men
more drinks on their way
sometimes when the drinks go down
keep caution of what say
the next day some words are laughed away
while other times you will pay
soon one man will fall to grass
from a glove that was struck to face

tell me now that you love this man
and i will go away
but tell me now that your loves for me
and i will fight and stay

East Bound Train

strarin out the window on this east bound train
wonderin when i'll see you again
watchin the world while my eyes grow tired
thinkin bout the places I've been
readin the letter you wrote to me
where you sent your love with a pen
its been so long since I've seen you
wont you tell me you love me again
wont you tell me you love me again

this train is a flyin down these old time tracks
tryin to get me into to town by ten
i'm gona see you and I hope its soon
but I really just can't tell you when
i try and act like a happy man
but without you i'll just have to pretend
its been so long since I've seen you
wont you tell me you love me again
wont you tell me you love me again

rockin back and forth from the right to the left
and back to the right again
watchin all the world go flyin by
i wonder what it was like back then
when the land was young and the world was old
built up by the boldest of men
its been so long since I've seen you
wont you tell me you love me again
wont you tell me you love me again
wont you tell me you love me again

Eatin' Pizza

eatin pizza sittin up in my bed
pepperonis bouncin off my dogs head
heard its not good to feed them what i eat
but ill let her decide if she likes meat

these days they say that it will kill us
breathing air or riding on a big bus
walking cross the street or taking a bath
eatin by a mountain lion on a path

take a pill cause you've got a hurtin back
but that pill might give you a heart attack
take a pill cause you got a case a gout
now all your hair is a fallin out

had a headache took myself some medicine
sent me runnin to sit down on the porcelain
took a pill cause my teeth i tend to grind
box said it may make me wake up blind

eatin pizza sittin up in my bed
pepperonis bouncin off my dogs head
heard its not good to feed them what i eat
but ill let her decide if she likes meat

sometimes a little harm is just fine
so we can smile up in our mind
dont worry about the pepperonis
smile cause most of life is baloney

C major is the key of this song
if you want to play or a sing along
sing loud so everyone can hear you
and share your pizza with your friends and dog too

Eileen

i loved for a while
but now im tryin
to let you go
its never easy
to let somebody know
that you dont want them
in your heart anymore
and your movin on to
somethin new
a brand new life
and theres nothin they can do

but the night
seems so long
without you
to help me along
through the night
till the sun comes
up again
but i hope
that you
go away
i need to make it on my own
my eileen
look what you've done to me

when i first met you
i fell in love with
everything that you'd do
but now i see
the dark and hidden truth
im glad its not too
late for me to go
i'll tell my friends
everything i know
about the things
that you have done to me
sometimes it so hard
for me to really see
what you've done and
who i used to be

but the night
seems so long
without you
to help me along
through the night
till the sun comes
up again
but i hope
that you
go away
i need to make it on my own
my eileen
look what you've done to me
my eileen

Eleven Innocent

well a tree was standin tall a black oak above our heads
way up high there we saw eleven swingin dead
bayonets were pushin through while he hid in his tent
so now their swingin in the tree
eleven innocent

with courage they were chargin there feelin tall as trees
with bayonets they left them beggin down there on their knees
while the seargant hid alone he built a story that was bent
so now their swingin in the tree
eleven innocent

he said instead they ran away with yellow down their backs
he charged with saber in his hand while leading the attack
he took the hill and raised the flag in a letter that was sent
so now their swingin in the tree
eleven innocent

well i was what they call a spy but coward they will think
i filled those mens bellies up with good corn whiskey drink
while bravery still soaked their skin from the night before
the men moved in quilckly while I closed in like a door
i saw the fish were in the net so back into my tent
so a coward they would think ,m   i was
eleven innocent
Everybodies Feelin' Fine

well i look around tell you what i see
a lot of friends of mine
so lift your glass and cheers to me
cause everybodies feelin fine
cause everbodies feelin fine

theres people dancin round the fire
and sittin in the trees
so turn around and clap your hands
to a life we're livin free
to a life we're livin free

everybodies got two sides
your made of dark and light
and i embrace both those sides
but i know whats wrong from right
but i know whats wrong from right

lifes got its up and downs
theres nothin you can do
but focus on the best of things
and cheers to me and you
and cheers to me and you

well i look around tell you what i see
a lot of friends of mine
so lift your glass and cheers to me
cause everybodies feelin fine
cause everbodies feelin fine

Everybody Wants To Be My Friend

everybody wants to be my friend
everybody wants to be my friend

when i was young nobody even cared
about the things i said and about the things i shared
i was just boy tryin to get by
tryin to find some people that thought like i

then i grew up and they called me a man
i did a little work for some money in my hand
i gota nice house and i gota a nice car
i gota nice wife if you meet her at a bar

when i was broke nobody said hi
now i gota lota dough and the people walkin by
are wavin their hands and smilin at me
cause they know i got somethin that they might need

now everybody wants to be my friend
everybody wants to be my friend

when i was young i had a thing for betty lou
but she only liked the boys with expensive shoes
i asked her on a date and she didn't even blink
then she gave a dirty look and said what do you think

then i grew up and they called me a man
i did a little work for some money in my hand
i saw betty lou she was lookin at my car
she asked if i was thirsty as she pointed to a bar

now everybody wants to be my friend
everybody wants to be my friend

one of the guys at my work likes to float
goin down the river in a little row boat
but he doesn't got a boat and he doesn't like to swim
so he's gota find a boat thats attached to a friend

i got a promotion back in late july
so i bought myself a boat with some paddles in the sides
he never used to say good morning or hello
till he saw me drivin in with a trailer and a boat

now everybody wants to be my friend
everybody wants to be my friend

i was sittin in a club i found a pretty girl
she was wearin lots a diamonds and them polished pearls
i said hows it goin are you lookin for a friend
she said not you but yes i am

her friends just sat there and glared at me
cause they didn't think i had any do re mi
the club was so hot and the air was still
so i made them all fans outa hundred dolla bills

now everybody wants to be my friend
everybody wants to be my friend

the economy died and so did i
people just glare as they pass me by
i guess they dont remember my shiny shoes
the suits id wear and expensive booz

i was doin pretty good with pockets full a cash
makin lots of friends but it didn't last
I'm feelin pretty low and I'm livin on a couch
starin at the walls and I'm thinkin about how

everybody used to be my friend
everybody used to be my friend

Everything'll Be Alright

well I'm sittin on the floor in my living room
hope I'm gona find a cheap couch soon
my baby took away all the furniture
but she don't know that i sold her furs
I'm gona ask her back for the diamond ring
well it wasn't really a diamond, but some cubic thing
she took all the forks so i took all the spoons
she got all the chairs but i got all the rooms

cause some day i'll fly again
shootin through the sky with all my friends
and we'll laugh all day long
cause everything'll be alright

staring at the ceiling, it's my t.v. now
open up the windows just to hear some sound
i think i'll fill up the tub and go for a swim
it'll help me stop thinkin about her with him
all the people in town are talkin about us
cause they all saw you when you left on the bus
you left me here and now i look like a fool
never trust that woman it's a golden rule

cause some day i'll fly again
shootin through the sky with all my friends
and we'll laugh all day long
cause everything'll be alright

well i used to think i knew what it was like bein poor
till that woman took my things now I'm beggin at doors
never buy things that you can't afford
i lost a woman I'm still payin for
i've got a dollar in my shoe and a quarter in my hand
she even takes more from me then uncle sam
I'm gona go to the beach and stick my head in the sand
if you see me don't pull me out or give me a hand

cause some day i'll fly again
shootin through the sky with all my friends
and we'll laugh all day long
cause everything'll be alright

Eye For Eye

in the middle of night
open window to fright
would you tell me that i was in the wrong
would you tell me that i was in the wrong

if i signed away my name
everybody dressed the same
would you tell me that i was in the wrong
would you tell me that i was in the wrong

if i never turn the cheek
only an eye for an eye
would you tell me that i was in the wrong
would you tell me that i was in the wrong

if it was only my pride
that struck down the other side
would you tell me that i was in the wrong
would you tell me that i was in the wrong

if he pulled out an iron
and i beat him to the fire
would you tell me that i was in the wrong
would you tell me that i was in the wrong

if they came for my land
with a machine in hand
would you tell me that i was in the wrong
would you tell me that i was in the wrong
would you tell me that i was in the wrong
would you tell me that i was in the wrong

Farmers Daughter

well she was a poor farmers daughter
been waitin around for mister right
a soldier called on her sister
but she counldn't go out with him that night

he said that i am a good hearted soldier
and theres somethin that i think we must do
so pack up all the things that you need dear and
he said that i will run away with you

she was up livin in the mountains
his beard had grown she had herself a man
he hunted food and built them all a home there
and learned how to live off the land

he said that i am a good hearted soldier
and theres somethin that i think we must do
so pack up all the things that you need dear and
he said that i will run away with you

many years passed in the mountains
grey hair and lines on their face
sittin on the porch watchin fog pass
knowin there was never another way

he said that i am a good hearted soldier
and theres somethin that i think we must do
so pack up all the things that you need dear and
he said that i will run away with you

Feels Like Love

close your eyes when we're alone

and let your mind bring you along

when i try i only see you

then in my head

i hear something say

this feels like love

this feels like love

the candles light in the room

dances wildy to the tune

needle diamond cutting through

then in my head

i hear something say

this feels like love

this feels like love

the vinyl spins around the room

playing soft to me and you

i see your eyes you feel it too

then in your head

you hear something say

this feels like love

this feels like love

Fishin'

i went a fishin' i went a fishin' in the sea
i went a fishin' i took my woman fishin' with me

we filled are boat up we filled are boat up to the brim with fins
i took my line in and i told my woman to do the same

when i was sleepin' she put 10 fat worms on her line
when i was sleepin' she tried to catch a fish on her line

when i woke up she said don't you be accusin' me
when i woke up i saw her hook was deep down in the sea

i saw her fishin' i saw her fishin' with both my eyes
so how can she tell me she's not fishin' with all that bait on her line

i took my girl out i took my girl out on the town
the men were whisltin' they always whistle when my womans around

i saw her winkin' she was winkin' at every man in town
i said its cold out don't you think you'd better cover your skin

but she kept struttin' and gigglin' down the street
i had to fight off half the men that she'd meet

with her make up eyes and her hair so high
how could any man not look when she walked by

i saw her fishin' i saw her fishin' with both my eyes
so how can she tell me she's not fishin' with all that bait on her line

we went out dancin' we went out dancin' last week
the band was swingin' but i left my girl to get her a drink

i started talkin' i started talkin' to a man at the bar
we were laughin' and smokin' on some cuban cigars

he bumped my elbow and said look at that girl over there
he said shes lookin' for an old sickly millionaire

he was pointin' pointin' straight at my girl
i started laughin' but i was really cryin' in my world

he said shes fishin' i can see it in her eyes
and she'll always be a fihsin' and she'll never take the bait off her line

Float Away

if you speech while you sup
cut yo mouth on a broken cup
if you hang a selfish wish
then you'll swim with the ocean
fish high and fish low
as you sink on down below
now a final goodbye
its no use don't you

cry cry she sang to him
then he came runnin in
blue eyes met hers of green
like nothin hed ever seen
she says come and dance with me
and they made history
and now we'll watch it all just float away

if you speech while you sup
cut yo mouth on a broken cup
if you hang a selfish wish
then you'll swim with the ocean
fish high and fish low
as you sink on down below
now a final goodbye
its no use don't you

try and remember when
you were a kid back then
runnin through the grass alone
not too far from home
tell me darlin now
that you'll still love somehow
and now we'll watch it all just float away

if you speech while you sup
cut yo mouth on a broken cup
if you hang a selfish wish
then you'll swim with the ocean
fish high and fish low
as you sink on down below
now a final goodbye
its no use don't you

cry cry do no good
won't show up like it should
world keeps on movin by
won't stop to even sigh
green eyed girl of his
left alone to miss
and now she'll watch it all just float away

Flyin' Home To You

flyin in this plane lookin out the window at the clouds

i dont know how much love in my heart can be aloud

but i know that ive just about filled it to the top up with you

if i love you anymore than i just dont know what my heart will do

cause i walk a little taller

feel a little stronger

feel like theres nothin i cant do

i walk a little taller

feel a little stronger

whenever im holdin on to you

im floatin through the air thousands of feet up in the sky

i know that i cant see you down on the ground but i still try

i picture you down there waitin for me maybe you will cry

but soon ill be seein you and together we will fly

cause i walk a little taller

feel a little stronger

feel like theres nothin i cant do

i walk a little taller

feel a little stronger

whenever im holdin on to you
so baybe im flyin home to you

flyin through the night lights are flashin on the wings

im thinkin of you while i listen to the song the engines sing

i close my eyes so your the only thing that i can see

i wanna pick you up so you can come and fly away with me

cause i walk a little taller

feel a little stronger

feel like theres nothin i cant do

i walk a little taller

feel a little stronger

whenever im holdin on to you
so baybe im flyin home to you

Folsom Prison

well my old man was banned from folsom prison
they told my daddy you can't come here no more
and they told my pa that he was too much trouble
and don't cha come back a knockin' on our doors

well a couple a men tried to get out of folsom prison
they stole a work train and smashed it through the gate
one got away but they locked up all the others
but my daddy didn't even have to try and escape

cause my old man was banned from folsom prison
they told my daddy you can't come here no more
they told my pa that he was too much trouble
and don't cha come back a knockin' on our doors

well a man tried to swim outa folsom prison
he used the guts of an old football
they had to drain the pond to find his body
but at least his soul escaped those prison walls

well a woman left a raft in the river
she left it floatin' there for her man
but my daddy didn't go floatin' down the river
it just took one swing from his right hand

cause my old man was banned from folsom prison
they told my daddy you can't come here no more
and they told my pa that he was too much trouble
and don't cha come back a knockin' on our doors

my daddy was workin' on folsom prison
he was a hard workin' concrete pourin' man
but he didn't respect the pup that was barkin' orders
so he knocked his golden helmet across the land

so my old man was banned from folsom prison
they told my daddy you can't come here no more
and they told my pa that he was too much trouble
and don't cha come back a knockin' on our doors
Forever I Will Roam

i write these words down on this note
in case i dont come home
the general on the other hill
is smiling on his thrown
every hour of every day more men join his camp
they're singing songs of strenth and pride
by flames they're shadows dance
by flames they're shadows dance

we showed up on this hill and stood
five hundred brave men strong
but now we shake and drink and wait
and hope help comes along
our general stays inside his tent
smoking on his pipe
slowly counting every breath
he has left in this life
he has left in this life

when i left i fealt i knew
that i must go and fight
but now i cant begin to see
for what i gave my life
the men that started this long war
stand so far away
safe they sleep in beds of warmth
and with my life they play
with my life they play

i left my wife and my young son
the only ones i love
to fight a war far from my home
a happy man i was
i write these words down on this note
in case i dont come home
the afterlife regret ill feel
and forever i will roam
forever i will roam

Four Legged Gal (the fork song)

some girls have one some girls have two but mines got more than three
i've got a four legged gal
if you bring her to the beach with some melon and a peach
watch her shine out there in the sun
just press her to your lips and savor every kiss
cause i've got a four legged gal

set the table stout candles burning out
but only one is sitting in a chair
she always stands up straight heading for my plate
never lets me miss a three square

some girls have one some girls have two but mines got more than three
i've got a four legged gal
if you bring her to the beach with some melon and a peach
watch her shine out there in the sun
just press her to your lips and savor every kiss
cause i've got a four legged gal

if you head out east and bring her to a feast
everyone will just stop and stare
for their girls just have two to eat that old chop sue
four legs will give them quite a scare

some girls have one some girls have two but mines got more than three
i've got a four legged gal
if you bring her to the beach with some melon and a peach
watch her shine out there in the sun
just press her to your lips and savor every kiss
cause i've got a four legged gal

chopstix spoons knives even sometimes hands
everybody loves their gal
but i must say i've tried them all everyone from big to small
but the fork is my true pal

some girls have one some girls have two but mines got more than three
i've got a four legged gal
if you bring her to the beach with some melon and a peach
watch her shine out there in the sun
just press her to your lips and savor every kiss
cause i've got a four legged gal

Frog And Dog

where did the boy go out off with his dog
down to the river to fetch him a frog
in a box he put him under his bed
said goodnight to his dog and his frog fred

Gasoline

well i took out a girl she was fine as can be
i took her to that club down by the sea
she wanted to go there to get a bite to eat
but when i saw the menu prices i said we've got to leave

she said you've got yourself a fine machine
but i guess you can't afford my gasoline

i was drivin' down the road to the local bank
the needle said i had an empty tank
i looked up to the sign for the price of gas
it said 4 dollars and goin' up fast

i told the man in the bank i've got this fine machine
i've got to take out a loan to buy some gasoline

i went down to a bar and met a woman there
i bought her a whiskey and myself a beer
i bought her some gin and a rum and coke
she was as mean as a bull and never laughed at my jokes

well she wasn't my idea of fine machine
but at least i can afford her gasoline

someone broke into my garage today
they coulda taken everything and walked away
they didn't take my radio they didn't take my tools
they didn't take my wallet sittin' on the stool

they didn't even take my fine machine
but they siphoned every drop of my gasoline

Girls With Tractors

well if you    find yourself a woman and shes got herself a tractor then i tell you man i think that you are doin fine

but if your   ladies got a tractor than you'd better be a man and drop a shot a whiskey down in that sippin wine

i had a   girl in the city and i think that she was pretty but nothin else about her made her worth my time

i    used to go clubs and try and find myself a girl but now my eyes are watchin for tractor crossing signs

i had a girl in the city and i gave it whirl but what a man really needs is a tractor girl

well i was    talkin to a man and he was tellin me about the girl that he met back and fell in love in 59

he    said that she was pretty and he really liked the girl but when she let him see her tractor then he lost his mind

he said he    held on tight and he knew that it was right cause a girl like that is so hard to find

theres a    lot of different girls in a lot of different worlds but the rarest of them all is the tractor kind

i had a girl in the city and i gave it whirl but what a man really needs is a tractor girl

a    crazy man was sittin in a couch with a shrink he looked up at her said what do you think

every    girl i ever liked every girl i ever loved every girl that even took the time to give me a wink

they were    all city girls had their hair up in curls but every single one of them went down a sink

the    doctor said man let me tell you what you need grab yourself a country woman and get my bill in a week

i had a girl in the city and i gave it whirl but what a man really needs is a tractor girl
Glad

I'm glad you stayed and didn't run away
now you know who i am
theres always a place for the people that are sad
I'm glad you know who i am
every day the sun will not shine
do you like who i am
the stars will fall and the flames they will burn
are you sure of who i am

too many people are lonely
too many people are ashamed
too many people have no one
no one to help them see their place
no one to help them see their place

choirs of angels are callin' out your name
please don't give them your hand
their singin' to save not to put you in your grave
please now give me your hand
i know that its dark and time is tickin' by
hold on tight to my hand
the sun is a risin' but where have you gone
and why am i holdin' my own hand

too many people are lonely
too many people are ashamed
too many people have no one
no one to help them see their place
no one to help them see their place

I'm glad you stayed and didn't run away
now you know who i am
theres always a place for the people that are sad
I'm glad you know who i am
every day the sun will not shine
do you like who i am
the starts will fall and the flames they will burn
are you sure of who i am
Goin' Home

robbers in the bushes and their hands are full
of everything your life and soul
they'll sell it to the first man
that offers them gold

runnin in the jungle hopin that they won't
see you in the light or they will take you
away from the daylights
where you can't see

i was goin home
goin home
goin home
and i felt fine

standin tall in a suit and tie with a
gun in his pocket and one on his thigh
ready to shoot off
at anything they say

she walked in to the smoke filled office of the
man with the ceiling fan and for a profit he'll
follow you around
and make the bad go away

i was goin home
goin home
goin home
and i felt fine

robbers in the bushes and their hands are full
of everything your life and soul
they'll sell it to the first man
that offers them gold

runnin in the jungle hopin that they won't
see you in the light or they will take you

where you can't see

goin home
goin home

Golden Spike

I'm the engineer of this train
rollin' this engine towards fame
theres a golden spike waitin at the end
and i'll see old 119 around the bend

the men are poundin' spikes into the ground
i hold my head up proud to the hammers sound
the Jupiter is headed on its way
from sacramento to north of the great salt lakes

and old 119s on its way
from council bluffs to utah someday
we're both tryin' to leigh down more tracks
but the mountains are tryin' to hold us back

but the chinese are trained with dynamite
and they'll help us blast through to the light
with tunnels and bridges in the sky
built upon the men that have died

Gone Again

I'm gone again
had to leave
but I'll be back here

once again
always got to leave
here every

now and then
cause i can't breath
until I'm gone

away again
turnin' off the
motors in my

head again
turn down all the noise
so i can

think again
thats how i know
that soon i will be

+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+

when i lived in town
i used to go away
but not as much

as now
but i'd say that
the reason is my

luck is down
so many people
think I'm just

another clown
chasing after
every little

thorny crown
makes you think
you want it but it

cuts you down
and i think that you know this
when your

+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+

I'm gone again
had to leave
but I'll be back here

once again
always got to leave
here every

now and then
cause i can't breath
until I'm gone

away again
turnin' off the

head again
turn down all the noise
so i can

Gone With The Wind(Bonnie And Clyde)

she was a smart girl
he was a wild man
when they met they fell in love
and headed cross the land

he'd walk into a bank
holdin' a gun
while she was sittin' in the car
lettin' the motor run

then they'd be gone with the wind ain't comin' back again
they'd be gone with the wind ain't comin' back again

they came downtown
were drivin' around
he walked into the store
was gona gun me down

he said open up the register
and empty the drawer
then he shot a couple rounds
and he was out the door

then they were gone with the wind ain't comin' back again
they were gone with the wind ain't comin' back again

they robbed another bank
early in the day
he came out shootin'
and they were on their way

the cops were outside
they got away on the run
cause the law couldn't stop
their automatic guns

they were gone with the wind ain't comin' back again
they were gone with the wind ain't comin' back again

they were drivin' down
thought they heard a sound
headin' for the hideout
outside a town

some men jumped up
and shot them down
their car was shot up
with over a hundred rounds

and now they're gone with the wind ain't comin' back again
they're gone with the ain't comin' back again

Good Friend of Mine

your a good friend of mine
your a good friend of mine
whats mine is always yours and yours is always mine
your a good friend of mine
your a good friend of mine
whenever we go out we have the best of times

we went out yesterday walkin' down the road
headin' out lookin for that old swimmin' hole
we swam all day and leighed out in the sun
anything i do with you i know it will be fun

cause your a good friend of mine
your a good friend of mine
whats mine is always yours and yours is always mine
your a good friend of mine
your a good friend of mine
whenever we go out we have the best of times

we built a swing in a tree flyin' through the wind
laughin' high up in the clouds didn't want that day to end
drinkin lemenade through a straw with a bend
and i knew that day we'd be the best of friends

cause your a good friend of mine
your a good friend of mine
whats mine is always yours and yours is always mine
your a good friend of mine
your a good friend of mine
whenever we go out we have the best of times

when we grow old we'll be sittin' in the sun
thinkin' about the days back when we were young
we'll smile and we'll laugh cause we're still the best of friends
we'll go out and fly on a swing in a tree again

cause your a good friend of mine
your a good friend of mine
whats mine is always yours and yours is always mine
your a good friend of mine
your a good friend of mine
whenever we go out we have the best of times

Good Old Days

i woke up outa my sleep
headed down to the street
walkin' down the road with holes in my shoes
feelin' gravel on my feet

i've got to find a way
to get ahead someday
ain't it funny that no matter how bad things are
someday someones gona call these the good old days

we're still fightin' in a war
the only thing thats growin' is the poor
we used to be strong and stood as one
but we don't got much pride no more

we've got to find a way
to make this country free again some day
ain't it funny that no matter how bad things are
someday someones gona call these the good old days

sometimes i - think too much about the past
and some-times i look ahead too far
you've - got to stop look around and take it all in
and love just where you are

cause someday you'll be lookin' back
thinkin' about where you were at
and you'll see you had the chance to live
when you were wastin' away in what they now call the good old days

Go Tell My Darlin'

go tell my darlin i am so blue
go tell my darlin that i miss you
tell her when she left i fell so blue
take this letter to my darlin true

Got To Change

making mistakes for too long now
goin down the same old dirty road
take me with you now and show me who i used to be

i just hope it's not too late to change my ways
i hope it's not too late to change

keep on tellin myself i'll change tomorrow
the next day i just tell myself the same
you can't say a thing unless you've walked in my old shoes

i just hope it's not too late to change my ways
i hope it's not too late to change

i see the light fading away now
thought that i would see it one more time
take me through the years and show me i've not been too wrong

i just hope it's not too late to change my ways
i hope it's not too late to change

Gravel And Sand

break those backs with iron hands
till your biceps burn and you drop into the sand
boys don't live when the world gets real
you've got to have a heart and back made of steel

the girls stay home and the boys drop dead
while men stand tall and stand till the end
theres no room for talk only proof of what you are
show you can follow the man that set the bar

mix that gravel water and sand
today im gona make you boys a man

sweat and blood are dripping off your hands
hammers poundin steaks deep into the land
a pick, hammer and axe are the tools for you men
as soon as you leigh your shovels down you'll pick them up again

working through night sleep cannot be found
except for the men that are left upon the ground
but they will never wake sleep forever be
make sure to leave coins on the eyes for charon's fee

mix that gravel water and sand
today im gona make you boys a man

riches in your head you'll work until die
chasing after dreams with gold inside your eyes
you'll never have enough its a never ending climb
each step just brings you further from your peace of mind

when you finally meet the man with a paddle in a boat
you must bribe his greedy hands to leave the dreary coast
styx and acheron are the rivers you will see
heading for the underworld forever you will be

mix that gravel water and sand
today im gona make you boys a man

Gut Full Of Rum

well i finally found a town
after ridin 3 months long
and i found the prettiest girl
that sang the prettiest songs

she worked at the old saloon
at end of the street
she sang songs and poured drinks
and told me she loved me

well we danced through the night
she told me i felt strong
she held me so tight
now nothin can go wrong

cause i've got myself a woman
and its lonely on the trails
and she told me she loved me
so i'll have her wear a veil

well i woke up this morning
with a gut full of rum
theres three men outside
yellin at me to bring my gun

said they heard i was with a girl
that didn't belong to me
i looked outside the window
and saw a rope waitin there for me

i asked her one more time
tell me do you love me
she looked in to my eyes
and thats all i needed to see

so i walked to the door
and i held my head so high
cause i've got two six gun 44's
12 shots three men will die

so i kicked down the door
and took two bullets in my leg
but i fired off 12 44's
in the dust three men leigh
in the dust three men leigh
in the dust three men leigh
Gypsy Cove

i was a sailor man
in a foreign land
searchin' for a woman to love

in 1929
the sun didn't shine
and i lost everything i owned

some good friends of mine
jumped and died
and some are sellin' apples in the road

the ones that didn't die
still don't seem quite alive
i think the devil stole their souls

so i got myself a job
workin' on a ship
sailin' cross that deep blue sea

when my feet touched sand
in that foreign land
i left that ship floatin' in the sea

i was sippin' caffeine
in an old cafe
when she tried to sell me a broken heart

but i was new to that land
so i gave her my hand
and thought i'd try to fix that broken heart

so i fell in love
its hard not to do
with a woman from a foreign land

she was my gypsy woman
and i loved her so
and we'd go sailin' down to gypsy cove
i was her sailor man
she was my gypsy queen
and we'd go sailin' down to gypsy cove
and we'd go sailin' down to gypsy cove

well love is love
and a heart is a heart
and it breaks the same no matter where you go

i was sittin' at that cafe
the same as that first day
when i didn't see that gypsy girl

she said she'd meet me there
in the old town square
and we'd sip caffeine in that old cafe

but she never came
and i had no one to blame
but myself for loving a broken heart

i guess when one is broke
it's really broke
and it can only love you for so long

cause it just keeps on achin'
for the one thats takin'
the piece of it that makes you feel love

she was my gypsy woman
and i loved her so
and we'd go sailin' down to gypsy cove
i was her sailor man
she was my gypsy queen
and we'd go sailin' down to gypsy cove
and we'd go sailin' down to gypsy cove

Gypsy Moon

if you go up high in the mountains tonight
theres a gypsy woman that will tell you why
if you go up high in the mountains tonight
theres a gypsy woman that will tell you why

theres a gypsy moon in the sky tonight
theres a gypsy moon and its glowing bright
theres a gypsy moon in the sky tonight
theres a gypsy moon and its glowing bright

she will tell you why you are feeling strange
why you jump up high and dance in the rain
she will tell you why you are feeling strange
why you jump up high and dance in the rain

theres a gypsy moon in the sky tonight
theres a gypsy moon and its glowing bright
theres a gypsy moon in the sky tonight
theres a gypsy moon and its glowing bright

your hair stands up as your sweighing in the rain
to the sound of the music that the gypsies play
your hair stands up as your sweighing in the rain
to the sound of the music that the gypsies play

theres a gypsy moon in the sky tonight
theres a gypsy moon and its glowing bright
theres a gypsy moon in the sky tonight
theres a gypsy moon and its glowing bright

you tell your friends to come and follow you
so you can laugh and dance to the gypsy flute
you tell your friends to come and follow you
so you can laugh and dance to the gypsy flute

theres a gypsy moon in the sky tonight
theres a gypsy moon and its glowing bright
theres a gypsy moon in the sky tonight
theres a gypsy moon and its glowing bright

Heart And Song

today a man robbed me blind
he took away everything that i owned
but i don't really mind
because he left me my heart and my songs

he stripped away all my worldly things
but he don't know what kind a man i am
cause i don't need any of those things
as long as i've got my heart and my songs

i'm lucky that he left me alive
but i wouldn't mind if death came along
as long as in the after life
i still had my heart and my songs
Heavy Anchor

i've got a heavy anchor
and it holds me close to
the people and places i love

well i used to want to be a sailor on a ship travelin around this world
so id walk down to the docks as close as i could get and dream about those island girls

id watch the men a workin on ships while they're singin songs and dream about when id sail away
with tattoos of my own and a pipe full of smoke workin hard through every day

but i've got a heavy anchor
and it holds me close to
the people and places i love

when i go to sleep at night i dream of ocean flight standin in the nest of a crow
the wind is blowin by while i keep a weather eye for the captain of the ship down below

the adventures we would find while it opened up our minds to the size of the world we know
maybe leigh accross the sand with a jug a rum in hand waitin to hear where we will go

but i've got a heavy anchor
and it holds me close to
the people and places i love

but when i wake up from my sleep i head down to the street to go and see the girl i love
then i keep on movin by with no plans up in my mind just to hear the seaguls calling above

as i walk down to the sea nothin better could there be than the smell of salt blowin in the wind
i heard a bell out on a ship and it seemed to call to me sayin  its time for something new to begin

i've got a heavy anchor
and it holds me close to
the people and places i love

Hemp Necktie

well my friend billy told me that his dad
works for the railroad line
he wears suspenders with a pocket watch
to make sure that hes always on time

my friend tim told me that his dad
works in the old hotel
with a monocle and a waxed mustache
he'll draw you a bath from the well

but my old man was always on the run
you could say he traveled as a hired gun
i saw him there swingin in the sky
cause my daddy wore a hemp necktie

well my friend sam told me that his dad
has a shining star to wear
cowboy boots and a big old hat
and an oath he had to swear

my friend bob told me that his dad
works in the general store
he wears an apron and a garter sleeve
cause he rolls up his shirt for chores

but my old man was always on the run
you could say he traveled as a hired gun
i saw him there swingin in the sky
cause my daddy wore a hemp necktie

well my friend frank told me that his dad
never cared much for work
he sat around and yelled at mom
and she called him a professional jerk

my friend ralph told me that his dad
works in the copper mines
he carries a shovel and an old pickaxe
with a light on his helmet that shines

but my old man was always on the run
you could say he traveled as a hired gun
i saw him there swingin in the sky
cause my daddy wore a hemp necktie

Highway 49

sittin' around as low as i can be
hop up in my truck and turn the key
glad i brought my friend along with me
those hound dog ears are blowin' in the breeze

drivin' down highway 49
the roads out here help to ease my mind
drivin' down highway 49
tryin' to leave my worries behind

the radio says its a cool hundred and four
headin' to the river can't take the heat no more
watchin' all the clouds above the shore
but my throats gone dry gona head up to the store

drivin' down highway 49
the roads out here help to ease my mind
drivin' down highway 49
tryin' to leave my worries behind

keep on drivin' late into the night
that warm summer breeze feels just right
i can see far down the road some neon lights
glowin' bright beneath the starry sky

drivin' down highway 49
the roads out here help to ease my mind
drivin' down highway 49
tryin' to leave my worries behind

whenever life has got me seein' red
i come out here to try and clear my head
i burn some gas and wear down on my tread
cause i love these roads and i'll drive em' till i'm dead

drivin' down highway 49
the roads out here help to ease my mind
drivin' down highway 49
tryin' to leave my worries behind

His Old Songs

she said he's gone
but i still can see his face
when i hear the record play
his old songs

she said he's gone
but the memories will stay
and i hear him call my name
when he sings those songs

she used to go
and see him sing each night
on the stage beneath the lights
he'd sing those songs

she used to go
with excitement every night
that the man beneath the lights
has givin her his heart

she said he's gone
but i still can see his face
when i hear the records play
his old songs

she said he's gone
but the memories will stay
and i hear him call my name
when he sings those songs

Holding On A Gun

theres no top on my car

the wind balsting trough our hair again

just a red blur we fly through the summer heat again

so hold on tight until we make it through

cause you were in the sun, standing there

holding on a gun, i no where

you were coming from, now we must

be out on the run, so follow

Tell me you love me

and tell me that you care

tell me you love me

and tell me that you care

i say to you this is not the end

we've got to wind through these roads

once we make it bye and cross the line

then we will live so free again

cause you were in the sun, standing there

holding on a gun, i no where

you were coming from, now we must

be out on the run, so follow

Tell me you love me

and tell me that you care

tell me you love me

and tell me that you care

you tell me how much you really love this man

i show you how i love you too

i push you far away so i can change the gears

and now we speed so far away

cause you were in the sun, standing there

holding on a gun, i no where

you were coming from, now we must

be out on the run, so follow

Tell me you love me

and tell me that you care

tell me you love me

and tell me that you care

 HOLD ON TIGHT

tell them i was in the fire in the woods
and tell him all the others are gone
now im looking for some brand friends
to help me make it along

birds wings poundin in the black of the night
williams and thompson are gone
swarms in the sky like some dragonflies
come to take the rest of us home

HOLD ON TIGHT
IF YOU THINK YOUR GONA MAKE IT
THROUGH THE NIGHT
HIDIN IN THE JUNGLE
JUST WATIN TO BITE
WISHIN YOU WERE SAFE BACK HOME

red skies flared up the man on the radios
been singin out the same old song
saying get here quick and bring a lot a heavy lead
and send these men where they belong

a bird drops in lowers down and opens up
starts tearin everything into shreds
theres a - man in its belly and hes really gettin wild
starts puttin all the strangers to bed

HOLD ON TIGHT
IF YOU THINK YOUR GONA MAKE IT
THROUGH THE NIGHT
HIDIN IN THE JUNGLE
JUST WATIN TO BITE
WISHIN YOU WERE SAFE BACK HOME

now we're - flyin high and im hopin that
i can somehow forget this day
but i know when i sleep the jungles coming back
and i'll spend my nights runnin away

i turn back around to take a final look
theres a fresh bird tearin the sky
then i hear a whistle screamin and its fallin to the ground
as we sail off through the night

HOLD ON TIGHT
IF YOU THINK YOUR GONA MAKE IT
THROUGH THE NIGHT
HIDIN IN THE JUNGLE
JUST WATIN TO BITE
WISHIN YOU WERE SAFE BACK HOME

Howl At The Moon

well i built myself a home
and i built it far out in the woods

but a storm came around
and knocked it down to the ground

i fell down to me knees
and looked up far into the sky

but i don't have the time
to leigh around and cry about my dreams

i stood right back up
just as soon as i fell down on my knees

i picked up all the parts of my
home that i didn't want to leave behind

and i headed down a trail
with the pieces to build a home and a brand new life

cause I'm still alive and I'm holdin on
nothins gona keep me down tonight
I'm gona dance around and howl at the moon
and scream into the night that I'm alive
scream into the night that I'm alive

well it took a part of my life
to build that home just to watch it wash away

but i learned from what went wrong
so i'll build another stronger home today

i guess that i was built
strong enough to see another day

i don't know how many times
I'm gona wake up feelin this way

but i've got to keep in mind
that each days a gift even when i'm down

cause I'm still alive and I'm holdin on
nothins gona keep me down tonight
I'm gona dance around and howl at the moon
and scream into the night that I'm alive
cause I'm still alive and I'm holdin on
nothins gona keep me down tonight
I'm gona dance around and howl at the moon
and scream into the night that I'm alive

Hyde And Seek

Two men stand in the body of one

a constant battle not left to fate

the burning sun only hides the moon

one is twisted while the other straight

It seems as though two souls exist

never knowing which one will wake

no peace can be found in a single heart

any smile one shows the other will take

When one is awake the other must sleep

no room in the body to share

when night creeps in slow but sure

the mind and body beware

Awake awake filled with hate

seeing the other as weak

he puffs his chest with crazy eyes

with poison soaked in his speech

Taste of the river that flows from hell

bring out this dangerous beast

hidden with laughter, charm and cheer

preparing for a selfish feast

If you turn down this chalice of wine

a promise you swear to keep

always remember Hydes not dead

its your choice to wake him from sleep

I Ain't Changin A Thing

well ive got tattoos on my skin
and hair growin from my chin
and i ain't changin a thing about who i am
you better learn to love me
just the way that you see
cause i ain't changin a thing about who i am

i interviewed for a job today
with benefits and higher pay
but i had to leave and walk out on that man
he said the job is a guarantee
if you walk and talk like me
i said id rather die then shake the devils hand

cause ive got tattoos on my skin
and hair growin from my chin
and i ain't changin a thing about who i am
you better learn to love me
just the way that you see
cause i ain't changin a thing about who i am

i went to meet my womans friends
mary sue and betty ann
theres one thing about them i can't understand
as they stand there in front of me
they're both 5 foot three
but somehow they manage to still look down on me

cause ive got tattoos on my skin
and hair growin from my chin
and i ain't changin a thing about who i am
you better learn to love me
just the way that you see
cause i ain't changin a thing about who i am

don't let the world change who you are
you gota be who you be
it ain't worth tryin to fit with society
its just a bunch of fools
that made a bunch of rules
to make you think you have to be just like them

but ive got tattoos on my skin
and hair growin from my chin
and i ain't changin a thing about who i am
you better learn to love me
just the way that you see
cause i ain't changin a thing about who i am
I Couldn't Take It Anymore

Well it's diggin in the morning
and dying through the day
my skin is turned to leather
and my backs seen better days
oh god can you help me
i can't take it anymore

well they put me in a box
sittin in the sun
sweat the life out of me
keepin me too week to run
oh god can't you help me
i can't take it anymore

well i woke up this mornin
i sat up in my bed
disappointed i was living
wishing i was dead
oh god can't you help me
i can't take it anymore

well i woke up to the sound
of the language that i know
they'd finally come and found us
never thought i'd see my home
oh god let me thank you
i couldn't take it anymore
oh god let me thank you
i couldn't take it anymore
If Friends We Could Be

well you say that you don't care to be
the one thats got to tell them all to leave
well now i see

and you don't feel the pain
when its someone elses arm thats getting slice
well ain't that nice

just hold my hand and follow me
to the ends of the earth and the bottom of the see we'll see
if i was right

I'm sending you and your brother too
and your little baby boy will be there soon i know
because i own your lives

well you get cut down my a man
sittin in a tree with a gun in his hand aiming
at your life

maybe someday you will see
that they're like you and your like me and the world
will see the light

well I'm tired of shootin at you and you shootin at me
so why don't we go down the road and see
if friends we could be
If You Love Me Too

i took you to the fair last night
and you were lookin perfect in the lights
you were standin there lookin up at me
and i was wonderin what it was in me you see

you whispered in my ear up on your toes
and everyone and thing around me froze
you said that you were glad that i was here
and that you've felt alone for many years

every time you look at me and speak my name
i wonder if your heart and brain feels the same
i want to tell you how I'm feelin today
but I'm scared to hear if you love me too

we went out for a drive late last night
the roads were clear and everything was right
with my jacket on you were curled up in your seat
with the windows down i turn on the heat

we turn into a diner off the street
a cup a coffee and somethin to eat
i look at you and you look back at me
and i wonder if you see what i see

every time you look at me and speak my name
i wonder if your heart and brain feels the same
i want to tell you how I'm feelin today
but I'm scared to hear if you love me too

watchin an old movie on t.v.
never felt the same with just me
i don't want this night to come to end
cause i may never find it again

i wonder if your havin the time
that I'm havin with you on my mind
every day now i look forward to
cause i've got the chance to spend it with you

every time you look at me and speak my name
i wonder if your heart and brain feels the same
i want to tell you how I'm feelin today
but I'm scared to hear if you love me too

I'm scared to hear if you love me too

I Like Dogs More Than I like You

drivin in my car truck cuts me off the road
he laughs at me and now i sit here waitin to be towed
thirty minutes sittin here a car filled up with guys
they throw a cup a soda at me as they're drivin by
a loyal friend thats always there and you know that they are true
i like dogs more than i like you

tanks are slowly creepin in with death packed in a gun
just the sound of tracks and motors send them on the run
grey and black accross the chest and boots up to the knee
marchin in the daylight with a modern calvary
a loyal friend thats always there and you know that they are true
cause i like dogs more than i like you

i went out to the movies bought a ticket and a snack
but now theres feet a pushin and a bouncin on my back
i hear their phone goin off they pick up say hello
guess they thought they were the only ones here at the show
a loyal friend thats always there and you know that they are true
i like dogs more than i like you

built a ring filled up with seats straight into the sky
eatin popcorn watchin lions tear into a cry
the giant man with a metal hat swingin round a mace
starin through the holes built in the mask upon his face
a loyal friend thats always there and you know that they are true
cause i like dogs more than i like you

I'll Be There

headin' through the forest
climbin' up the mountain
don't know how much longer will be here

bound up so tight
that i start to feel the bight
as the rope slowly tears into my skin

you turn around and look
so deep into my eyes
and i can see that your tryin' not to cry

i think back to yesterdays
and everything i used to say
and how i never knew what i had

cause you never know how much
that you really had to love
until it's all been taken away

if you ever need me just turn around and i'll be there
if your ever lonely just turn around and i'll be there
they're holdin' me back now cause they know i can't handle your tears

most a them don't mind me
but one of them is watchin'
he knows that i've got plans in my head

i know that we are headin'
for their camp and i'm dreadin'
what we're gona find when we're there

deeper into wilderness
the rattle snakes i start to miss
when i see the mountain lion up above

the lion watches quietly
on a rock up next to a tree
waitin' for a straggler left behind

if you ever need me just turn around and i'll be there
if your ever lonely just turn around and i'll be there
they're holdin' me back now cause they know i can't handle your tears

you turn around and look again
i smile sadly through a grin
they knock me on the ground with their guns

the one thats had his eye on me
starts to point and yell and scream
he pulls the hammer back on his gun

you can try and imagine well
what death is like and if there's hell
but nothin's like starin' down a gun

it fills you up with fear and hate
while you spin and think and wait
wishin' that this day had never come

the lion tears through all the trees
runnin' towards the man and me
the lions mostly made of skin and bones

it takes him down and i hear him scream
i grab his gun and shoot us free
now theres many men to fill those skin and bones

if you ever need me just turn around and i'll be there
if your ever lonely just turn around and i'll be there
they're holdin' me back now cause they know i can't handle your tears

I'll Be Workin'

seven years ill be hear

thinkin about everything you done wrong

gona wake up every day

and tell myself to push and be strong

no one tells me ill be dead

intsead they tell me ill be workin

thought my life had come to end

intsead they tell me ill be workin

tell me you dont see

everything that cha done to me

but there off you go again

but you know that when im gone you'll be sittin there cryin alone

tell me you dont see

everything that cha done to me

but there off you go again

but you know that when im gone you'll be sittin there cryin alone

the tape is spinnin in my head

better catch it when it wakes up

if you wait too long away

it will fly and you will give up

no one tells me ill be dead

intsead they tell me ill be workin

thought my life had come to end

intsead they tell me ill be workin

tell me you dont see

everything that cha done to me

but there off you go again

but you know that when im gone you'll be sittin there cryin alone

tell me you dont see

everything that cha done to me

but there off you go again

but you know that when im gone you'll be sittin there cryin alone

lights are dim people dancin

try and find them in my view

the musics loud they say its just right

try and find them in my view

no one tells me ill be dead

intsead they tell me ill be workin

thought my life had come to end

intsead they tell me ill be workin

tell me you dont see

everything that cha done to me

but there off you go again

but you know that when im gone you'll be sittin there cryin alone

tell me you dont see

everything that cha done to me

but there off you go again

but you know that when im gone you'll be sittin there cryin alone

I'll Bring Black Roses

ill bring black roses along with me
ill bring black roses along
you tell me now that youve found love again
so ill bring black roses along

you were my wife one year ago
you took my heart as a toy
and now you say youve found love again
so ill bring black roses along

on our wedding day we danced to a waltz
you whispered the words i love you
but now you dance with another poor fool
and whisper on his wedding day

maybe you will stay with this man
but i dont think that you will
when you get bored with his heart as a toy
hell bring black roses to you

ill ring black roses along with me
ill bring black roses along
you tell me now that youve found love again
so well bring black roses along
I'm Gone Away

I'm gone away and i ain't comin back
I'm gone away from this world
I'm gone away and i ain't comin back
o lord wont you take my soul

well i left my home when i was just 13
i headed down the road of sin
i bought me a gun and i killed me a man
i shot down the devil in him

I'm gone away and i ain't comin back
I'm gone away from this world
I'm gone away and i ain't comin back
o lord wont you take my soul

well i heard about a town where they hang a lot a men
no trial or jury for a man
so i shot down their sheriff and all of his men
cause the sheriff was the devils right hand

I'm gone away and i ain't comin back
I'm gone away from this world
I'm gone away and i ain't comin back
o lord wont you take my soul

on sunday the preacher was praisin the lord
on monday he was livin' a life of sin
on tuesday he made a deal with the devil for gold
so down to the devil i sent his soul

I'm gone away and i ain't comin back
I'm gone away from this world
I'm gone away and i ain't comin back
o lord wont you take my soul

well ive killed a lot of men since the age 13
but i never killed good hearted man
whenever i heard there was a devil runnin' free
i'd dig a hole as tall as me

I'm gone away and i ain't comin back
I'm gone away from this world
I'm gone away and i ain't comin back
o lord wont you take my soul
I'm Not All That Bad

tell me now that i was true
true to what i said to you
i promised that no harm would come
to you or to anyone

as long as you were here with me
theres nothin else i'll ever need
we'll live out here beneath the trees
i hope some day that you'll want me

i was gona love you
you tell me that hate me
i was gona show you
I'm not all that bad

i can see a change in your eyes
i start to fall for your lies
a kind of peace comes over you
maybe love has found you too

you hold my face with your hands
and tell me that you need a man
i tell you that I'm here for you
you tell me that our love is true

i was gona love you
you tell me that hate me
i was gona show you
I'm not all that bad

you tell me if your gona stay
you've got to go back home today
and say goodbye to all your friends
your life in town has come to end

i hold your body close to mine
the moon above us starts to shine
you tell me now that you must go
but you'll come back here all alone

i was gona love you
you tell me that hate me
i was gona show you
I'm not all that bad

i see you comin back to me
but i see far out through all the trees
a hundred men with burnin flames
on torches next to rifles aimed

i tried to be alone with you
you tell me now that I'm a fool
to think that you could ever fall
deep in love with me at all

i was gona love you
you tell me that hate me
i was gona show you
I'm not all that bad

I'm Not The Wolf

every stone lives in the basket
weight is never quite enough
keep on chasing farther past it
leave it standing in the dust

wonder sets the head from ease
even sleep is not enough
the light in sky you beg and plead
that something new will fill it up

every time the hammer swung
no suprise should show its face
when the light is out for you
comfort hopes to find a place

trains are placed on single track
raised to bring the others end
morning glows the brain from sleep
changing how the day you'll spend

snake to snake and crow to crow
tricked again the taste of own
peasants there will always grow
when truths nowhere and can't be shown

the swan has lost her way for now
wings ignored for stylish taste
but time will hope for change of cloud
while cobs can only hope of haste

im not the wolf that talks to trees
im not the one to rattle bones
the river you will twist and squeeze
if the bell it labors tones

all cats talk with elder eyes
thinking that they live alone
birth can help to choose your sides
looking back the proof is shown

they'll tell you that the sun is really blue
and leave us all there swimmin in our heads
wonderin if its really true
drowning while swimming in my head

Indian Girl

well i was down by the creek takin a bath
when i saw her washin there
cleanin her clothes on a river rock
i couldnt help but stare

her hair was long long and black
face as pretty as can be
but she saw me watchin with my big blue eyes
then she ran back into the trees

up in the mountains theres an indian girl
and i wish i was holdin her tight
down in the canyon by the old campfire
i sing to her every night
yo delay he hoo
yo delay he hoo
yo delay he he he he hoo

i know shes up there thinkin about
the cowboy in the creek
and i hope shes up there smilin wide
cause she made my knees so weak

im down here sturrin on a pan a beans
some corn bread in my hand
and im thinkin about that mountain girl
up in the huntin land

up in the mountains theres an indian girl
and i wish i was holdin her tight
down in the canyon by the old campfire
i sing to her every night
yo delay he hoo
yo delay he hoo
yo delay he he he he hoo

im leigh in my camp and i can stop thinkin
of my little indian girl
so i leigh my head back and look straight up
at the stars up above the world

i hear the cayotes and the summer bugs
buzzin in my ear
but now the voice of the indian
singin is what i hear

up in the mountains theres an indian girl
and i wish i was holdin her tight
down in the canyon by the old campfire
i can hear her singin in the night
yo delay he hoo
yo delay he hoo
yo delay he he he he hoo

In My Tub

i wrote this song here in my tub
with some soap and a rubba dub dub
now im singin in my tub
with my soap and a rubba dub dub

the soap i use is mighty slick
so i think maybe next i'll wash my...elbows

i wrote this song here in my tub
with some soap and a rubba dub dub
now im singin in my tub
with my soap and a rubba dub dub

the soap i use is green as grass
i think maybe next i'll wash my...toes

i wrote this song here in my tub
with some soap and a rubba dub dub
now im singin in my tub
with my soap and a rubba dub dub

i drop the soap and as it falls
i think maybe next i'll was my...chin

i wrote this song here in my tub
with some soap and a rubba dub dub
now im singin in my tub
with my soap and a rubba dub dub

In The Garden

why am i the only one that don't live in the garden
somehow someday i'll find a way to get inside the garden
everyone seems so peacfull there livin in the garden
its dry and lonely way out here far outside the garden

im draggin through the desert sand lookin for the water
my eyes are playin tricks on me i think i see some water
i lean my head down so low to drink myself some water
my mouth is filled up full of sand i thought i found some water

well i was sent to roam this land to spend it as a drifter
but i don't want to spend my life livin as a drifter
maybe some would love the life of livin as a drifter
but im stuck out here against my will livin as a drifter

all i see is desert sand nothin around is green here
ive heard about the cactus plant but i don't see the green her
sometimes i will find a stone but nothin around is green here
i remember how the garden was but nothins ever green here

why am i the only one that don't live in the garden
somehow someday i'll find a way to get inside the garden
everyone seems so peacfull there livin in the garden
its dry and lonely way out here far outside the garden

In The Night

i thought i walked away
but now im starin at the same old scene
but it don't quite look the same
i don't know if it changed or its just my eyes
don't know which way is right
sometimes i feel like i see things better at night
i hope maybe some day
i can make up my mind on what is real
but now i just gotta wait
and take the time to think through everything

but now you feel me in your heart
you lower down the shield that blocks the pain
you can tell when your both the same
nobodies tryin to take the upper hand
then the world fades away
cause you've got the only thing that you need

sittin in the sand
drove down to the beach late last night
laughter in the sky
somebodies played a dirty trick on me
but i don't see how or why
they could leave us all down here to die
i think its kinda strange
the most dangerous things can be se beautiful
its kinda deranged
to see how we're all here forced to fight
can't sleep in peace
never know whats out there deep in the night

but now you feel me in your heart
you lower down the shield that blocks the pain
you can tell when your both the same
nobodies tryin to take the upper hand
then the world fades away
cause you've got the only thing that you need

erery mornin i rise
feelin like the nights been swept away
dont quite feel the same
like the night brings out somethin in me
i think i feel more alive
or that maybe that its just all been a dream

but now you feel me in your heart
you lower down the shield that blocks the pain
you can tell when your both the same
nobodies tryin to take the upper hand
then the world fades away
cause you've got the only thing that you need

In The Shadows

your always lookin for temporary smiles
somethin quick to flip your mood around
but don't go playin in the shadows
cause you might never see the light again
you might never see the light again
you might never see the light again

it's hard not to follow somethin warmer
that could put your name in books for everyone
but it will leave you out in the winter
once your life is sittin in it's hand
once your life is sittin in it's hand
once your life is sittin in it's hand

i'm glad you decided to come with me
we're gona have a life in the sun
and i won't miss livin in the shadows
lets go live our lives in the sun
lets go live our lives in the sun
lets go live our lives in the sun
In These Woods

i roamed these hills when i was young searching far and wide
the lions eyes between the trees staring in the night
a wooden pistol i had carved hung there at my side
waiting to be drawn upon the wild cat that cried

leigh me down upon this earth
a favor if you would
let me spend my final hours
out here in these woods
i was born her in these woods
cause i was born her in these woods

the waterfall below my home the pond where hooks were dropped
sitting on the deck with line watching from the top
wooden boats we would build to sail the swollen creek
labs would run and swim and bark till they were old and weak

leigh me down upon this earth
a favor if you would
let me spend my final hours
out here in these woods
i was born her in these woods
cause i was born her in these woods

the hands of my father built the home where we all lived
he put his back and heart into everything he did
the skin of my mother cracked from working our dear land
and through these cracks her honest blood spread upon her hands

leigh me down upon this earth
a favor if you would
let me spend my final hours
out here in these woods
i was born her in these woods
cause i was born her in these woods

In This Meadow

in this meadow in the middle of the valley
in this meadow is where I'm gona die
in this battle and woman gona cry
when we're leighin' with our face up at the sky
keep on fightin' so many more will die

in this meadow where i used to run around
when i was a young boy when i was full of life
in this meadow a ring for my wife
but now i stand here aiming my rif-
le at another man so he doesn't take my life

with the sun rise i opened my eyes
my baby said she heard somethin loud outside
grabbed my gun and i grabbed my boots
runnin' to the sound of the drum and flutes
well my baby cried when i said goodbye
saw the fear in my face i was tryin' to hide
well i walked away and i didn't look back
had to close my eyes and except the fact
that i might soon die and never see them again
have to visit my grave when they bury me

in this meadow in the middle of the valley
men are fightin' cause they both claim the right
so now they're dyin' widows by the night
will be cryin' cause theres always gona be
someone wantin' to take away the things

that keep you smilin' that are worth fightin' for
and worth dyin' so i stand in the blood
of this meadow with smoke in my eyes
in this meadow the sound of the fifes
drums are poundin' leadin' us to die

with the sun rise i opened my eyes
my baby said she heard somethin loud outside
grabbed my gun and i grabbed my boots
runnin' to the sound of the drum and flutes
well my baby cried when i said goodbye
saw the fear in my face i was tryin' to hide
well i walked away and i didn't look back
had to close my eyes and except the fact
that i might soon die and never see them again
have to visit my grave when they barry me

in this meadow in the middle of the valley
in this meadow is where I'm gona die
in this meadow in the middle of the valley
in this meadow is where I'm gona die

Introverted Love Song

well i don't want to go out
meetin all your friends
if i even want to meet em
i guess it all depends
to even say hey how are you
just seems to be pretend
otherwise i'll be a waitin
for the night to end

theres nothin i'd rather do than do nothin' at all with you
theres nothin i'd rather do than do nothin' at all with you

well now i know that your the same
a crowd is not your friend
waggin jaws just makin noise
a room filled up with hens
theres other ways with my time
i would like to spend
otherwise i'll be a  waitin
for the night to end

theres nothin i'd rather do than do nothin' at all with you
theres nothin i'd rather do than do nothin' at all with you

is it wrong to enjoy
the company of one
i guess i just find that im
a barrel full of fun
shavin on a piece of wood
rockin in a chair
soon you'll find a cloud above
floatin in the air

theres nothin i'd rather do than do nothin' at all with you
theres nothin i'd rather do than do nothin' at all with you

Invincible

there once was a city that would never see doom
every one said it was strong and so new
but now its just a memory left for me and you

but they said that they couldn't die
cause they were all invincible

it was floatin cross the water and no one felt fear
no one saw it comin till it was too near
the water was filled up with people and tears

but they said that they couldn't die
cause they were all invincible

it was flyin so quiet like a ghost in the night
a giant so peaceful thrown into flight
but now its just ashes from flames burnin bright

but they said that they couldn't die
cause they were all invincible

there once was a city that would never see doom
every one said it was strong and so new
but now its just a memory left for me and you

Islander

I'm on your side

sittin here watchin it all

I'm on your side

I'm lovin it all taken it in

sailin through the open blue

headed for some warmer waters and im sure

i'll be comin through

watchin for the things i've never seen before

why don't you come too

if you don't want to stay here any longer

you know it'll all be new

so sail with me through open waters

cause I'm on your side

sittin here watchin it all

I'm on your side

I'm lovin it all taken it in

Island Of Lovers And Fools

if you ever try and find it
you'll be left alone
if you stop your searchin for it
then it will be your own

you'll walk on down to the water
and now its clear not blue
the sky is orange and now the clouds are
slowly passin through

so come with me
and you wiil be mine
on the island of lovers and fools

theres no map to help you find it
if the island, it wants you
than it will come and it will call you
theres nothin you can do

but hope and wait that you were meant to
find this place of peace
its a world where you can put your body
and your mind at ease

so come with me
and you wiil be mine
on the island of lovers and fools

if you ever try and find it
you'll be left alone
if you stop your searchin for it
then it will be your own

you'll walk on down to the water
and now its clear not blue
the sky is orange and now the clouds are
slowly passin through

so come with me
and you wiil be mine
on the island of lovers and fools

It's Not Love (scene 1)

i crossed the border with the generals daughter
and found myself down in mexico

i felt the spirits out in the distance
but now shes running down the road

so kiss me
and tell me it's not love

i wear a mask now nobody sees me
they don't know who i really am

i found a mission nobody lives here
i think i'll make myself a home

so kiss me
and tell me it's not love

the night is crawlin with someone smokin
i smell the wind that has been blown

i feel them out there i know its comin
they've come to show her way back home

so kiss me
and tell me it's not love

the rain is fallin i hear them callin
they've got some bullets with my name

now im here wishin that you would tell me
that you have found love just the same

i yell out to them i say shes comin
i tell them not to shoot her down

they're ridin off now but its still better
than livin my life underground

so kiss me
and tell me it's not love
It's Not Love (scene 2)

the train is rollin down the old steel rails
headin down the tracks

and you just leigh with nothin to say
and try hard to relax

well some will say that theres villains in the world
but some say heroes too

there ain't another way for me to say
how i feell about you

so kiss me and tell me it's not love
kiss me and tell me it's not love

the ground is a shakin its gettin close
you better make up your mind

well if you don't think that love is what you feel
maybe you could in time

your eyes so blue your dress so white
what a waste it would be

dressed all in black a big top hat
holdin a cain in my hand

so kiss me and tell me it's not love
kiss me and tell me it's not love

the iron horse his light so bright
steam fillin the sky

i ask you again to change your mind
and if you can try not to cry

but a man on a horse with a saber in his hand
cut your ropes away

and the bight of the blade into my chest
and on the rails i now leigh

so kiss me and tell me it's not love
kiss me and tell me it's not love
it's not love

I've Been Running For Too Long

we robbed a train tonight
we thought we got away alright
but now I'm running for my life
now I'm running for my life

sittin under this bridge all day
drinking whiskey while i pray
cause now theres a price on my life
now theres a price on my life

haven't got a bit of sleep
I've worn through my boots to the feet
cause I've been running for too long
I've been running for too long

i hear the dogs on my trail
i spend the week rotting in jail
waiting for this judge to end my life
waiting for this judge to end my life

i stand tall on the deck
they put the rope around my neck
I'm flying to heaven or falling to hell
I'm flying to heaven or falling to hell
I'm flying to heaven or falling to hell
I Warned You Twice

it was a hot sticky summer in 1924
she was the owner operator of a jewelery store
she bought it with the money from her great uncle bill
who left everything he had to her in his will

there was a strange man pacing outside of her store
that made everyone uncomfortable that walked through the door
he'd been outside for most of the day
cursin at the customers to scare them away

he walked right in with a fourty five
and said give me all your money and i'll leave you alive
she said hold on mister dont you push me around
i got a sawed off friend that'll knock on the ground

i'll warn you once i'll warn you twice
i don't warn a third time I'm not that nice

he said hey now honey be a sweet little girl
and put the money in the bag and i wont harm a curl
she looked at him dead square in the eyes
and said mister i already warned you twice

i warned you once i'll warn you twice
i don't warn a third time I'm not that nice

he said listen up dame I'm gona put you in your place
he lifted up his gun and put it in her face
before he could let out any of his lead
she knocked him on the floor with her shotguns spread
she said

i warned you once i'll warn you twice
i don't warn a third time I'm not that nice

JACKS GONA MAKE ME WAKE UP SICK

and the bartender said just what can i do

i said JACK BE NIBLE JACK BE QUICK
JACKS GONA MAKE ME WAKE UP SICK
JACK BE NIBLE JACK BE QUICK
JACKS GONA MAKE ME WAKE UP SICK

Jake Brake Lullaby

well im leighin in my bed and im tossin in my head
and i cant get no sleep tonight
the bell goes off at four fifteen
gota hurry down to the job site
the forman said i work like an irish mule
but i gota get some sleep tonight

cause i keep on rollin and they keep on towin
and we both gota make it through the night
so they're singin me the jake brake lullaby

i was rollin in my bed and i was rollin in my head
thinkin about my babies eyes
my back aint so good from workin like a mule
but ill take some pills to feel alright
i hear them big old trucks with them diesel motors
while im in my bed losin a fight

cause i keep on rollin and they keep on towin
and we both gota make it through the night
so they're singin me the jake brake lullaby

well im lucky to sleep by the old highway
at a slow down point in town
but im leighin in my bed and im tossin in my head
and im tryin to keep my eyelids down
my dog is a snorin and i think shes grinnin
knowin im tossin and turnin all around

cause i keep on rollin and they keep on towin
and we both gota make it through the night
so they're singin me the jake brake lullaby

Jingle Out A Dime

take yourself a bullet
and take yourself a gun
head down to the valley and you'll make sure that its done
leave the case a money sittin by the tree
and i don't want no eyes in the leaves a watchin me

if you ain't got nobody
and your runnin outa time
then find yourself a phone and drop down into it a dime
reach down in your pocket and jingle out a dime
if you ain't got nobody
and your runnin outa time

you gotta make it there
when the clock is strikin nine
thirty fourty two and the dog is by the sign
hide your car away and
stay out of the light
dont want to see your face till i know you done it right

if you ain't got nobody
and your runnin outa time
then find yourself a phone and drop down into it a dime
reach down in your pocket and jingle out a dime
if you ain't got nobody
and your runnin outa time

if you find yourself a doctor
and he sleeps a lot with wine
then don't go under his knife cause hes shaking all the time
you gotta make it there
when the clock is strikin nine
thirty fourty two and the dog is by the sign

if you ain't got nobody
and your runnin outa time
then find yourself a phone and drop down into it a dime
reach down in your pocket and jingle out a dime
if you ain't got nobody
and your runnin outa time

Just Call Me Friend

so just call me friend
so just call me friend
call me friend
till the end
well i knocked you down and took your woman away
and we headed down the road to the south of the bay
livin in the city in a penthouse suite
i love my life more in every passin week
well I'm sittin on my couch and I'm smilin wide
while your sittin in the dark chewin on your pride
so just call me friend
so just call me friend
call me friend
till the end

well ive been diggin in these walls of this prison cell
hopin some day we'd be outa this hell
we hopped up on the back of an army horse
but hes slowin me down as I'm headed north
so i knock him off the horse left him cursin in the sand
he should be proud that he saved a friend
so just call me friend
so just call me friend
call me friend
till the end

well i was out in the street while he was robbin the bank
it seemed like cake after the whiskey we drank
i was dreamin of the things now that i could afford
after we split all the money straight down the board
but a lynch mob came with a rope in their hand
so i pointed at my friend and said theres your man
so just call me friend
so just call me friend
call me friend
till the end

we were out ridin horses in the middle of the sand
tryin to find some water in this hellish land
there was one drop of water in the old canteen
such a crazy look in his eyes ive never seen
he grabbed the canteen and drank the water down
while i pulled out my hair and screamed on the ground
he said just call me friend
just call me friend
call me friend
till the end

Just Passin The Time

just passin the time till my babies home
i wanna see those eyes before the sun is gone

ive been up and down every road
thought id go out and catch a show
got to the movies but i couldnt go in
seen every picture that theres ever been

just passin the time till my babies home
i wanna see that smile before the sun is gone

i spent all last week drinkin beer
and this week is was wine
next week ill have to find something new
to help me pass the time

(interlude)

well i washed all my clothes and i put them away
i washed most of my plates
i found a new hobbie for a minute or two
but i get bored now i dreamin of you

just passin the time till my babies home
i wanna see those eyes before the sun is gone

i picked a string on my guitar today
but i got bored so i put it away
im walkin cirlces doin the same old things
mix up a drink while the radio sings

just passin the time till my babies home
i wanna see that smile before the sun is gone
just passin the time till my babies home
i wanna see those eyes before the day is gone

my pretty karoline
my pretty karoline
I'm comin down the line
Keep Fallin' Sun

the moon goes up
the sun goes down
hear a whisper in the trees

now you know
that you can't go
out into the trees

sleep all day
work all night
searchin' through the trees

keep fallin' sun
keep fallin' sun

don't go out
in the middle of the night
unless you want to see

just how long
you'll stay alive
runnin' through the trees

cause we'll be lookin'
down out you
from high up in the trees

keep fallin' sun
keep fallin' sun

the town is out
burnin' bright
searchin' through the trees

there minds are made
up tonight
gona rid these trees of disease

but they don't go
home tonight
they leigh beneath the trees

keep fallin' sun
keep fallin' sun
keep fallin' sun

Keep Movin On

well I'm gona be gone for a while
i don't know when I'll be back again
I'm tryin to hold the weight on my shoulders
but i can only take it for so long
i can only take it for so long
all i can do is keep movin on

well the sun is here brings me back my shadow
and i must say it's good to see him again
because sometimes i feel downright lonesome
and i can only take it for so long
i can only take it for so long
all i can do is keep movin on

I'm tired of smilin at strangers
when all they do is give me the evil eye
i try to be a nice sort of fellow
but i can only take it for so long
i can only take it for so long
but all i can do is keep movin on
all i can do is keep movin on

I'm tired of livin in this world
the kind of world that feeds on doing wrong
so i think I'll be gone for a while
cause i can only take it for so long
i can only take it for so long
all i can do is keep movin on
theres nothin else to do but keep movin on
Kings In Trees

every time i go to town
everybodies standin round
sayin that theres some other way
sittin up awake at night
if theres somethin better i
think i better be on my way

old man sittin in a tree all by yourself
were you once a king that ran away
old man sittin in a tree all by yourself
were you really once a man of fame

you walk up to the waters edge
knowin that you'll soon be dead
it's deadly as a poisonous snake
but still you open up your hands
reach them down into the land
and take yourself a poisonous taste

old man sittin in a tree all by yourself
were you once a king that ran away
old man sittin in a tree all by yourself
were you really once a man of fame

i can still hear the sound
of the stomping on the ground
and the screaming as if in pain
dim the lights and curtains down
now you've seen the last in town
I think i better be on my way

old man sittin in a tree all by yourself
were you once a king that ran away
old man sittin in a tree all by yourself
were you really once a man of fame

or i wont make it through the day

knots knots in my socks
feels like im walkin around on rocks
knots knots in my socks
life is full of cotton rocks

knots knots in my socks
feels like im walkin around on rocks
knots knots in my socks
life is full of cotton rocks

feels like im walkin around on rocks
knots knots in my socks
life is full of cotton rocks

Last Night

woke up today still in my shoes
knuckles are cut and my ribs are bruised
head is poundin' form the morin' light
but i still can't remember what it was i did last night

a friend left a message here on my phone
askin me if I found my way back home
he said a friend told him all about a fight
but he still can't remember what he did last night

my left eye was black and the other was red
i hopped up in the shower tried to clear my head
teeth marks on my leg left from a bite
but i still can't remember what it was i did last night

went outside to take a look at my car
better call into work cause i ain't gettin to far
somebody stuck my tires with a knife
and i still can't remember what it was i did last night

theres a shopping cart stop sign and nacho machine
sittin in my yard and i just cant believe
that even with all these clues in my sight
i still can't remember what it was i did last night

my girlfriends screemin on the porch at me
saying that i owe her an apology
but how can i apologize and make things right
when i still can't remember what it was i did last night

Lifeguard

drivin down the radio on and
i pretend that your there ridin
along with me palm tree slowly
wavin leaves maybe some day you'll see

cause ill be there sittin in the bright old sun
strummin to the sound of the waves till the day is done again
and there she is sittin high above the sand
lifeguard wontcha come and save me from this land

strummin in up and down on the strings of
my guitar standin on the stage and
there you are sittin in the back of a
crowded bar maybe some day you'll see

cause ill be there sittin in the bright old sun
strummin to the sound of the waves till the day is done again
and there she is sittin high above the sand
lifeguard wontcha come and save me from this land

headin out leavin from the back of the
crowded bar and there you were sittin
all alone in car pullin away on
down the road maybe some day you'll see

cause ill be there sittin in the bright old sun
strummin to the sound of the waves till the day is done again
and there she is sittin high above the sand
lifeguard wontcha come and save me from this land

Light Me Up

lost my job when they caught me sleepin
handed me my final pay
cut me a check and now im a wreck
and i think i'll be on my way

so light me and i'll stand here smokin
waitin for the day to end
line them up when they squeeze that trigger
soon there will be flying lead

i went and i told the princess
that i loved her so
but the king found out and now i know for
this my head will roll

so light me and i'll stand here smokin
waitin for the day to end
line them up when they squeeze that trigger
soon there will be flying lead

tried to rob a bank and i brought my pistol
wavin it above my head
now i hear a siren callin to me
sayin that it's blue and red

so light me and i'll stand here smokin
waitin for the day to end
line them up when they squeeze that trigger
soon there will be flying lead
light me and i'll stand here smokin
waitin for the day to end
light me and i'll stand here smokin
waitin for the day to end

Linin' Up The Bottles

linin up the bottles sittin in my room
failin to forget you thanks to your perfume
i smell it on my collar it fills me up with gloom
im just linin up the bottles over you

i went to the dancehall to share a laugh with friends
but there you were a dancin held tightly in his hands
i thought you were a wallflower but now you've come to bloom
im just linin up the bottles over you

i need you just like a train needs to run on tracks
like a jack under a heavy stone to save upon your back
like every house with dirt and dust needs a sweepin broom
now im linin up the bottles over you

i went to pay a visit to the undertakin man
i took out three gold pieces and dropped them in his hand
i said that when im dead and gone wont cho remember this
i handed him a paper with a fancy beverage list
so even when im dead and gone and sittin in my tomb
ill be linin up the bottles over you

Loaded Gun

I was born with a mind so wild
you can't hide if you want to smile
so while your here show em who you are
let it shine your burnin' star

just dont die with a loaded gun
dont die with a loaded gun
dont die with a loaded

if you go down in the street
from a shot and now you bleed
before you sleep empty your shells
and send that man with your final breath to hell

just dont die with a loaded gun
dont die with a loaded gun
dont die with a loaded

you can choose to which side you stand
and it will show if your a boy or man
time to fly it comes to soon
don't forget to howl at the moon

just dont die with a loaded gun
just dont die with a loaded gun
just dont die with a loaded gun
dont die with a loaded

Lonely Eyes

holdin hands and runnin through an orchard in the night and i know
that this ain't one a those things in your memory you let go
lots a girls can turn a head but this ones somethin else so illl try
do everything that i can to win the love of those Lonely Eyes Lonely Eyes

ravens up above where the leaves used to be i think i feel a storm comin in
clouds are out floatin by like giant ships sailin in the wind
feel the breeze blowin through makes the world start to come alive
do everything that i can to win the love of those Lonely Eyes Lonely Eyes

you ever have the feelin that everything is goin for the wrong
and all the luck you used to have has packed itself up and moved along
well theres woman all dressed up and men in shiny shoes and ties
everything is right cause i won myself the heart of those Lonely Eyes Lonely Eyes

Lone Rider

hes flyin through the highways and always there ridin alone

they say that he was born on the blacktop he calls it his home

never see his face woman say they've seen his eyes

passes through the towns womans hearts they always will try

lone rider

lone rider

lone rider

twistin on the throttle followin the endless ride

pleasure is found when the roads are open and wide

the dry desert wind blowin through the dead of the night

a wolf of the roads stands alone whenever he fights

lone rider

lone rider

lone rider

some say he had a woman that he onced loved

split good and bad born from a crow and a dove

never knew when shed change with the blink of an eye

twistin on the throttle followin the endless ride

lone rider

lone rider

lone rider

Lonesome

16 years and all alone
tryin to find his way
found a train to carry him
cause he was feelin lonesome

sittin on top of a railroad car
swayin through the days
spent his nights dreamin of
when he would not be lonesome

he met a girl in his head
she said her name was mary
her hair was curled and dark as night
and she said that she was lonesome

he'd dream of that girl every night
she said her name was mary
he hoped that someday she'd come alive
cause he was feelin lonesome

there was a war out east he was headin west
wasn't in the mood for dyin
didn't feel right gettin paid to kill
other boys that were feelin lonesome

he saw right through the words and lies
that the generals were all speachin
standin tall on a wooden box
sayin join is if your lonesome

so he found another railroad car
the bulls were all out a swingin
took a club to the shin but he got away
feelin mighty lonesome

he ended up in an old saloon
when a girl came up to see him
her hair was curled and dark as night
and she said that she was lonesome
Long Way From Home

just passin' through
another town
just tryin' to find a place to sleep
and lift my feet off the ground

i found a job
in a smokey bar
singin' some songs about some woman
strummin' on my guitar

a woman walked
up to the stage
and dropped some money
in my guitar case

she said i can tell by the way sing those songs
that brother your a long way from home

i tipped my hat
and i heard her say
for that tip
please make that piano play

i stood right up
and sat right down
and started poundin' out some
honky tonk sounds

that woman walked
up to the stage
and dropped some money
in my guitar case

she said i can tell by the way sing those songs
that somewhere sometime a woman done you wrong
and brother your a long way from home

she kept on payin'
so i kept on playin'
i kept a singin' about
some long lost flame

then i closed my case
and climbed off stage
i headed to the bar
with some change

i bought a drink
she sat right down
she said that drink
will only weigh down your frown

she said i can tell by the way you drink away those songs
that you've been alone for too long
and brother your a long way from home

Love For You Again

many years have past since we found love

it was rare i even thought of your name

but i was sittin by the fire with the radio on

and with it some memories came

it was an old time song you used to sing along

i hadn't heard for quite some time

but with the first note i heard your face i saw again

and my heart it started to pine

its been so long since i have felt

anything for you

i closed the doors to what we had

but last night i felt love for you again

i met a new girl last week pretty as a peach

she smiles at everything i say

all my friends said i'd found the one to keep around

and i had plans to see her today

but last night that song you used to sing along

i hadn't heard for quite some time

and with the first note i heard your face i saw again

and my heart it started to pine

its been so long since i have felt

anything for you

i closed the doors to what we had

but last night i felt love for you again

i ran into you about a year ago

and you were holdin on with your hands

to a new love you found heard it was weddin bound

i didn't care about you or that man

but last night that song you used to sing along

i hadn't heard for quite some time

and with the first note i heard your face i saw again

and my heart it started to pine

its been so long since i have felt

anything for you

i closed the doors to what we had

but last night i felt love for you again

Love

I'm on my way back home to you
ive been gone away for much too long
i know you say that you love
me and say you'll be true

but i need to see that you love me too
cause i am so in love with you
and sometimes i feel alone
when i hold you in my arms

but maybe you love me too
cause i am so in love with you
am so in love with you
I'm so in love with you
Luck

i look into a bottle and i see a ship within
and i say to you that this might be the end
who puts his hand upon the wheel i may never see
but i say to you that this might be the end

whenever i start walkin high i forget up in my head
if luck is luck or if im really dead
sometimes as the days go by i leigh down in my bed
if luck is luck or if im really dead

golden flake painted on the body of
the guitar he was playin in the band
string of metal wrapped across the neck of
the guitar he was playin in the band

when i see him standin there with cloth over his head
if luck is luck or if im really dead
is it worth the work now or should he sit out in the shade
if luck is luck or if im really dead

i look into a bottle and i see a ship within
and i say to you that this might be the end
who puts his hand upon the wheel i may never see
but i say to you that this might be the end
if luck is luck or if im really dead
if luck is luck or if im really dead

Madelyne

pickin' up daiseys in the middle of the night
for the hair of the girl thats flyin' in the
lights of the show and the people in the crowd
everything is fine if she don't touch
ground shes swingin in the top of tent
flyin' in air while hes outside
pickin' up daiseys in the middle of the night
thinkin about the girl called madelyne

paint on face grabbin his hat
headin to the crowd try to make them
laugh out loud so they wanna come
back for the paint on the man and the girl that
acts like a bird flyin through the air
while her friends outside and hes
pickin' up daiseys in the middle of the night
thinkin about the girl called madelyne

wakin up early sleepin on the floor
two shots missin from a fourty-
four the life of a woman like that
a mans gota move and dont hide
back to the bottle and wash his thoughts
flyin' in air while hes outside
pickin' up daiseys in the middle of the night
thinkin about the girl called madelyne

Man On A Horse

foods run out and i hope that they are same
low on powder and the lead is fadin away
the men all look like deaths starin them in the eyes
a bonfire burns while the others laugh drunk in the night

the white flags up they wanna give us one last chance
the general said its time for the devil to dance

i sent him a letter and its gona take a couple a days
ridin in a bag on a horse with a man on his way
sayin that we need the help of a couple hundred men yesterday
so send them quick and the life of these men you will save

they're waitin for the judge to make it into the town
but a mobs been formed with some rope and is gatherin around
five men sweat and bite their nails to the bone
they pace back and forth while one of them laughs alone

the men all look like deaths starin them in the eyes
the torches burn while the others yell drunk in the night

i sent him a letter and its gona take a couple a days
ridin in a bag on a horse with a man on his way
sayin that we need the help of a coupl men here yesterday
so send them quick and the life of these men you will save

he broke out that night and hes ridin like the wind
the poster said he had a beard and looked like whiskey and sin
he waited on the side of a hill behind the rocks
he stood there silent rifle was ready and cocked

the men all look like deaths starin them in the eyes
the torches burn while they all yell out in the night

i sent him a letter and its gona take a couple a days
ridin in a bag on a horse with a man on his way
sayin that we need the help of a couple men here yesterday
so send them quick and the life of these men you will save

Man With The Deadliest Gun

well i road into
the wrong town today
my first thought was to run
but my pride kept me there
holding my stair
on the man with the deadliest gun

i could see it in his eyes
he'd taken many lives
and i'll be lucky if he remembers taking mine
I'm just another notch
on the side of his gun
my life will be taken for fun

I'm standin here
in the middle of the street
my face is burnin in the sun
I'm starin at my death
standin in the street
the man with the deadliest gun

his shining 44 on
the side of his belt
seemed so peaceful like it was asleep
but soon it will awake
and my life it will take
with the man with the deadliest gun

the people in the town
are all standing around
one of them starts digging a grave
they know that i will die
because I'm locked into the eyes
of the man with the deadliest gun

his hand reaches down
for that old 44
so i quickly release a bullet from my gun
so down in the grave
a man will be laid
now I'm the man with the deadliest gun
I'm the man with the deadliest gun

Marilyn

livin in a time where its hard to see your way anymore
but there she is givin me somethin i can hope for

so let me come back when hes gone and i am in the clear
ill pick you up tonight and you know that theres nothin to fear
marilyn your the way
marilyn your my way
her hair just right cruisin down the road in a  hopped up devils dream
horses runnin makin all the power to let that motor scream
down goes the pedal and there you go a flyin in a stream
marilyn your the way
marilyn your my way

Maybe Some

im fearin below
tearin out my soul
cary me away
to another day

who will go to the side where the river flows
hope at least maybe some
now maybe some now maybe some now maybe some

agree with me
theres no guarantee
fasten your hold
its uncontrolled

who will go to the side where the river flows
hope at least maybe some
now maybe some now maybe some now maybe some

hanging your head
may as well be dead
lock your destination
make use of your creation

who will go to the side where the river flows
hope at least maybe some
now maybe some now maybe some now maybe some

Memory Lane

i left a girl her name was Jane
and now she lives down memory lane
they blocked the roads with locks and chains
they know theres pain down memory lane

when she lived on lincoln street
the grass was dead with thorns in feet
but now her grass is green and tame
where she lives down memory lane

i left a girl her name was Jane
and now she lives down memory lane
i must know why i left my Jane
so i drag my chains down memory lane

i found my way to my old flame
but somethins changed down memory lane
the grass was dead and thorns the same
guess she never changed down memory lane

Meyo Myo

bottles dead find a twin
crack it and open up
tilt it back in your head
remember pass that jug

meyo meyo myo down to the rivers edge
tell me old dan tucker does your brother live
meyo meyo myo down to the rivers edge
tell me old dan tucker is your brother dead

sittin on a porch a shade
sip down a bottle done
words flyin trough the breeze
till face and brain are numb

meyo meyo myo down to the rivers edge
tell me old dan tucker does your brother live

talkin bout yesterdays
remembered days of old
livin a wild life
while always doin what is told

meyo meyo myo down to the rivers edge
tell me old dan tucker does your brother live

river is washin by
crossin the rocks to swim
found some a sittin still
all sarted jumpin in

meyo meyo myo down to the rivers edge
tell me old dan tucker does your brother live
meyo meyo myo down to the rivers edge
tell me old dan tucker is your brother dead

Mine

yes i saw you today
and i wished that you were mine
i watched you walk away
and i knew this was the time
so i told you my name
I didn't feed you a line
and you told me your name
and then you gave a sign

wo oh i can't believe your mine
wo oh i can't believe your mine

well i stand and look at you
while you stand  in the night
the streets are soakin wet
golden from the street lights
glad i told you my name
I didn't feed you a line
and you told me your name
and then you gave a sign

wo oh i can't believe your mine
wo oh i can't believe your mine

i sit here and look at you
and you look back a me
you ask whats in my head
but i know you can see
glad i told you my name
I didn't feed you a line
and you told me your name
and then you gave a sign

wo oh i can't believe your mine
wo oh i can't believe your mine

Modern Man

i got a job it dont pay me that much i don't even got enough for a tomb
i got a girl she don't love me too much but she helps to fill the lonier rooms
somtimes i think i might be losin my head while other times im here feelin so fine
i think might treat myself to a bath with a couple dozen bottles a wine

i washed some dishes and a couple a cars i spent plenty a time pushin a broom
always wishin and wonderin how i could get myself a corner room
some men sit in office of glass with a key and a lock to the door
while others sit in a cubicle hell dreamin of clerical war

man wasn't built to live a life like that you wonder we're all losin our heads
spend half your paycheck talkin to a shrink just to get handed some meds
the alarm goes off your stomach turns over gona be another one of those days
it always feels good to have to walk on all fours just to ask your boss for a raise

i get home late lookin for my wife had a hard day makin the loot
she walks in later smokin a cigar with shoulder pads in her suit
she says im thinkin about growin a big mustache what'ya think about that hun
i said i give up now i guess there ain't a place left for a man like me under this sun

i was sittin in my house the kids were asleep a man came in for some fun
he had a 357 with a black mask on but his life was about to be done
but then i stopped and said oh i remember the government took away my guns
so he went upstairs helped himself to my wife and he took all my kids on the run

sometimes i sit up late at night on the couch a dreamin in my head
thinkin about the way things used to be and everything that my grandpa said
so i try to live a simple try to be as happy as i can
but i guess what it all really boils down too is i wasnt built to be a modern man

Molly Dog

well my best friend is an old hound dog
we go walkin' round everywhere
my best friend is an old hound dog
if you find one you'll find the other there

well we went down to a bar to get some libations
to wet our whistle with some giggle juice

i bought four and she bought five
we've been playin' pool to see who will buy

well my best friend is an old hound dog
we go walkin' round everywhere
my best friend is an old hound dog
if you find one you'll find the other there

well today we decided to put some money on the horses
go to the tracks and watch them horses fly

we always win when we go to the races
cause molly's got lady luck tattooed on her thigh

well my best friend is an old hound dog
we go walkin' round everywhere
my best friend is an old hound dog
if you find one you'll find the other there

well molly is my closest friend in town
she's bring up when i'm feelin' down

well she don't pay rent but i don't mind
cause she's the best friend i could ever find

well my best friend is an old hound dog
we go walkin' round everywhere
my best friend is an old hound dog
if you find one you'll find the other there
Money

i ain't got no money
i'm always scrapin by
sometimes i think its funny
sometimes i wanna cry
i ain't got no money
don't know what im gona do
somtimes i think its funny
sometimes it makes me blues

well i met myself a woman but she wouldn't look at me
i asked her for a date and she laughed at me
i said i know i may not look like i've got too much to show
but i've got a lot of money down in mexico

i passed a woman walkin down a sunny street
i said hello and all she did was stick her nose up at me
i said excuse me i know you've got some place to be
but i've got a lot of money out in tennessee

i ain't got no money
i'm always scrapin by
sometimes i think its funny
sometimes i wanna cry
i ain't got no money
don't know what im gona do
somtimes i think its funny
sometimes it makes me blues

i was sittin on a bench watchin birds in a tree
when someone called the cops on me for vagrancy
i said i can't pay the bail right now can't you see
but i've got a lot of money out in kentucky

i was sittin by myself feelin mighty alone
when a girl called me up on that old telephone
i asked her why did you call me please let me know
she said i heard you had some money out in ohio

Mornin' Comes

smoke is out there in the air
everybodies day is done
bucket sittin rusted out
hopin that the mornin comes
waitin for a friend to fly coldness in the cell of mine
waitin for the chance to run
hopin that the mornin comes
 hopin that the mornin comes

i hope that hes a ridin hard
pack filled with up with dynamite
pacin grooves in the floor
waitin for the morin light
soon the firing pins will strike burn the powder and agnite
send the bullets out to bite
hopin that the mornin comes
 hopin that the mornin comes

they tell me that i should beware
they tell me what this town has done
the stars are even rusted out
hopin that the mornin comes
waitin for a friend to fly coldness in the cell of mine
waitin for the chance to run
hopin that the mornin comes
 hopin that the mornin comes

smoke is out there in the air
everybodies day is done
bucket sittin rusted out
hopin that the mornin comes
waitin for a friend to fly coldness in the cell of mine
waitin for the chance to run
hopin that the mornin comes
 hopin that the mornin comes

Mountain Man

won't cha let me have your love

won't cha let me have your hand

cause you could be my country queen

and i could be your mountain man

if you tell me you love me than i'll be so fine

whistlin down the road spinnin cane

i tell you the love that im feelin is true

cause you take away my feelins of pain

my head gets light when your on my mind

hope this feelin dont go away

i bought a golden ring and now ill give it a try

i spent a couple bucks from my pay

won't cha let me have your love

won't cha let me have your hand

cause you could be my country queen

and i could be your mountain man

i tell you you'll never find another like me

and i'll probably never find one like you

tomorrow ill go and get measured for suits

and ill start a shinin up my shoes

you wont get a life full a shiny new things

you wont live the life of style

but ill give you all you need to make it through this life

and on your face ill leave you a smile

won't cha let me have your love

won't cha let me have your hand

cause you could be my country queen

and i could be your mountain man

a rainbow ended on a mountain side

and thats where i found my queen

never in my life a girl like her

did both of my eyes ever see

i used to slide around this world a wearin a frown

scrapin nuckles on down the street

but now i wear a smile with a skip in my step

whisltin and tappin my feet

won't cha let me have your love

won't cha let me have your hand

cause you could be my country queen

and i could be your mountain man

Mountain Wedding

all our friends and all our family
are on their way to see
two young people gettin' married
beneath the mighty trees

and all the birds will sing together
high up in the trees
cause this will be a mountain wedding
you were meant for me

mama's bringin' her finest fixins
finest fixens around
and me and old dan williams brother
gona sing till the sun goes down

and all the birds will sing together
high up in the trees
cause this will be a mountain wedding
you were meant for me

they don't need to bring no beer
they don't need to bring no wine
cause uncle tom and uncle billy
gona bring that old moonshine

and all the birds will sing together
high up in the trees
cause this will be a mountain wedding
you were meant for me

Move Slow

if you ever find a girl

and she wants you for her man

then you take her to the dance

and you hold on to her hand

when a slow song it is played

walk her far accross the floor

put your hand around her waist

and in your ears the music poors just

move slow

move slow

move slow

if youve got a funny joke

then wisper down into her ears

and hope it leaves her with a smile

that she we remember for years

if theres something to be said

then talk about your common taste

if theres nothing left to say

just keep your hands around her waist and

move slow

move slow

move slow

if you feel you love this girl

then lower down onto your knee

take the box that you have brought

and open it for her to see

if her answer it is no

then get back up off of your knee

if the answer it is yes

then bring your families to see you

move slow

move slow

move slow

My Halo

they showed me all the sides of the town
they shot their guns while they were ridin' around
they tied me up to the back of their horse
i closed my eyes and prayed to the lord but

my halo is gone
my halo now is gone
they dragged me down the road
till they thought i was gone

i spent my life dressin' in white
i tried to bring this world some light
but now i wear a gun at my side
and the hat on my head is as black as the night

my halo is gone
my halo now is gone
they dragged me down the road
till they thought i was gone

i bought myself a colt 44
i got six shots and i don't need no more
i practice all through the day and the night
i see they faces laughin' through my sight

my halo is gone
my halo now is gone
they dragged me down the road
till they thought i was gone

i didn't do any of those men wrong
they just didn't like how i was ridin' along
the sheriff just laughed as they dragged me by
but late last night i took him for the same ride

my halo is gone
my halo now is gone
they dragged me down the road
till they thought i was gone

the town was busy with the old rodeo
and all those men think I'm six feet below
so i let my six bullets fly through the wind
and now those men are regrettin' their sins

my halo is gone
my halo now is gone
they dragged me down the road
till they thought i was gone
My New Shoes

my friends you don't need to tell me where you have been
i know you've seen our boss to hear where i should go
goodbye to the city buildings and the sky
hello to all the fish that swim below
i see a bucket on the ground for me
a mix of cement and water for my feet
your sweat to take such good care of a friend
so sweat that you would stay here till the end

my friends made a brand new pare of shoes for me
so now im standin at the bottom of the sea
my friends put a brand new pare of shoes on me
so now im singin at the bottom of the sea

i love to see the way the fishes look at me
they know that im somewhere im not suppose to be
i smile and wave my hand as if to say hello
i try and make the best of things down here below
i sing as if im in the finest club above
the girls with lenthened cigarettes and opera gloves
i sing and some of them begin to dance and fall in love
the lights are shinin down on me from up above

my friends made a brand new pare of shoes for me
so now im standin at the bottom of the sea
my friends put a brand new pare of shoes on me
so now im singin at the bottom of the sea
so now im singin at the bottom of the sea

Never Coming Home

i see you laying in the warm bed
acting like I'm not in the room
i start a packin up my suitcase
and i ain't never comin home

tell me old man where'd you find her
i see you've found your love
so I'm not goin home
so I'm not goin home

i hear the train callin my name
time for my feelings to move on
i know that i will fall in love again
but i would rather stay alone

tell me old man where'd you find her
i see you've found your love
so I'm not goin home
so I'm not goin home

too many years passed by my face
now i am lonely and old
nobody in this world knows my name
i do not want to die alone
oh lord don't let me die alone
oh lord don't let me die alone
i do not want to die alone

New Orleans

you took my money and you took my wife
you left me here with an empty life
now I'm comin down to New Orleans
now I'm comin down to New Orleans

i got to talkin with a gamblin man
the kind thats always got a winnin hand
he said he saw you down in New Orleans
he said he saw you down in New Orleans

i sold my boots and i bought some wine
i hopped a train and road it down the line
because I'm goin down to New Orleans
because I'm goin down to New Orleans

i found that man with my wife in his hand
my eyes shot down to her wedding band
they got married down in New Orleans
and so i buried them down in New Orleans
No Tomorrow

well i was gona go out and have a drink with my friends
but i stayed at home instead and said i'd see them tomorrow

well my dad asked me if i'd go fishin' with him
i said i ain't got the time i'll go fishin' tomorrow

well i met me a girl and i knew she was the one
but true loves everywhere i think i'll love her tomorrow

well my whole life i said i wana hop a train
but that sounds like too much fun i think i'll think i'll wait till tomorrow

would you go out with me
and call me your friend
would you have a drink with me
if you knew this was the end
would you dance like a fool
and throw your worries away
would you tell me that you loved me
if you knew there was no tomorrow

well i'm sick of my job and it's time for a change
but its' too warm today i think i'll go lookin' tomorrow

well i called up my friend for the money he owes me
he said i can't pay you today i'm gettin' a new tattoo tomorrow

well i went to my boss and asked him for a raise
he said you always make me laugh tell me that joke again tomorrow

i was gona tell my family i loved them all today
but i'm sure they'll be around i think i'll tell them tomorrow

would you go out with me
and call me your friend
would you have a drink with me
if you knew this was the end
would you dance like a fool
and throw your worries away
would you tell me that you loved me
if you knew there was no tomorrow

well I'm layin' in my bead dreamin' today
plannin' all the fun i'm gona have myself tomorrow

well i spent all day worryin' again
about all the things that could happen tomorrow

i could have made today the best day of my life
but just like yesterday i spend it plannin' for tomorrow

i hope i don't spend the rest of my life
plannin' for a day that might not be there tomorrow

would you go out with me
and call me your friend
would you have a drink with me
if you knew this was the end
would you dance like a fool
and throw your worries away
would you tell me that you loved me
if you knew there was no tomorrow
Now She's Gone

if i say goobye
now shes gone
now shes gone

your eyes say to me
now shes gone
now shes gone

i try to hear
now shes gone
now shes gone

say my heart
now shes gone
now shes gone
Now That Your Gone

well I'm sittin on the porch in front of my home
sippin on a local brew
watchin the sun go down again
while the sky turns a darker blue
but i cant enjoy my paradise
anymore without you

cause now that your gone I'm feelin lonely
now that your gone I'm feelin blue
now that your gone I'm feelin lonely
now that your gone I'm feelin blue
I'm feelin blue
I'm feeling blue
now the stars are out and the moon is there
smilin down at me
I'm startin to feel a little better now
I'm puttin my mind at ease
but the radio plays out one of your songs
now I'm low as can be

cause now that your gone I'm feelin lonely
now that your gone I'm feelin blue
now that your gone I'm feelin lonely
now that your gone I'm feelin blue
I'm feelin blue
I'm feeling blue

i'll live outside for the rest of my life
if thats what i have to do
cause i cant go back into my home
everything reminds me of you

cause now that your gone I'm feelin lonely
now that your gone I'm feelin blue
now that your gone I'm feelin lonely
now that your gone I'm feelin blue
I'm feelin blue
I'm feeling blue

Oh Lord That Shotgun Sang

a government man came to my home
out in the woods of el dorado
said I'm lookin for a man that looks like you

i said hey now mr. pinkerton
tell me now just a what ive done
or else I'm gona make my shotgun sing

they say theres a man crossin the line
runnin around makin old moonshine
they say this man looks a lot like you

ill tell you now that i am that man
and i do what i want when I'm on my land
and now your leavin or ill make this shotgun sing

i saw his little fingers startin to dance
reachin for the trigger on the side of his pants
i ain't givin this devil no chance
oh lord i let that shotgun sing

he came to my home lookin for blood
that government man was just a glorified hood
oh lord you shoulda heard that shotgun sing
I'm glad i taught that shotgun to sing
Old Hangtown

don't be caught hangin round
hangin around in hangtown
you don't wanna be hangin round
hangin around in old hangtown

couple a men came into town
nobody'd ever seen them around
they tied up their horses
stayed the night
had a couple drinks
and seemed alright

had a drink with them
played a game a cards
talked about women
both small and large
next mornin
they woke up late
with their heads hungover
and robbed the bank

well now they're just hangin round
hangin around in hangtown
now they're just hangin round
hangin around in old hangtown

in the moon light
a two man fight
they both say
that they've got the right
to a woman that they both know well
she's a cute little curly haired southern bell

they went outside and brought their guns
about to have some artillery fun
bullets were flyin both east and west
till one caught the sheriff in his vest

well now they're just hangin round
hangin around in hangtown
now they're hangin round
hangin around in old hangtown

well two men were talkin way out east
about their nephew and their niece
they said that she'd been doin fine
but they heard that he'd been doin time

well he'd always been a wild one
robbin trains and banks for fun
but now i hear he's slowed down some
i heard...

that he's just been hangin around
hangin around in hangtown
he's just been hangin around
hangin around in old hangtown
Old Mexico

well i was out in caloma in 49
i was diggin' in the earth for gold
my life back east was fallin' apart
time to find a brand new road

i packed up my wagon with a few things
some salt pork tools and my dog
and we headed out west to dig in the ground
and to dynamite till kingdom come

i was doin pretty good minin for gold
i was the foreman of the blastin team
i had half of china and ireland
workin for me night and day

i started out here a swingin' a pick
made my arms as hard as a stone
but now i sit on the back of a horse
like a general in a war

now I'm ridin' for the border of mexico
tryin' to find a friend
and i've gota make it down to old mexico
if i don't want my life to end

well she came into town on a dusty stage
i knew that trouble followed close
cause she was the only pretty woman around
and all these men are fealin' alone

i said if you want and need a man
i'm the one that runs the show
all these men are working for me
I'm the king of california gold

well we were all drinkin and beatin our chests
tryin' to win the heart of that girl
she leaned over to me and she touched my hand
and whispered that your the one

so i stood up tall and announced to the rest
that no man better touch my girl
i could see one man's eyes turnin' red
he looked like an angry bull

now I'm ridin' for the border of mexico
tryin' to find a friend
and i've gota make it down to old mexico
if i don't want my life to end

well that man's name was danny o'shea
he was the biggest irishman around
he said that woman was meant for me
now I'm gona put you under the ground

i said lets talk about this at the end of the day
we've got a lot of work to do
so i sent him to work deep in a hill
and then i set up dynamite for a kill

i blasted that hill right into a grave
theres no more danny o'shea
i tried to make it look like an accident
but now some friends of his are comin' my way

they were walkin' towards me with there eyes burnin' red
carryin' a rope for me
so i ran and hopped on the back of my horse
before they had me swingin' in a tree

now I'm ridin' for the border of mexico
tryin' to find a friend
and i've gota make it down to old mexico
if i don't want my life to end

now I'm ridin' for the border of mexico
tryin' to find a friend
and i've gota make it down to old mexico
if i don't want my life to end

srtongest when their 10 to 1 but she told me that she needed a man
odds weren't hangin by my side but buckshot shoots out loud and wide
piano man jumps up to hide and she told me that she needed a man
to this day no men ive killed just snakes in boots with lead i've filled
beer and blood yes both ive spilled but shed told me that she needed a man

if you dont feel those old time things
and theve gone and sailed away
if the pages wont turn back again
than i guess our stories comin to end

its- said that snakes will slither by but ive seen plenty walkin high
in -hats with guns strapped to the thigh and she told me that she needed a man
bottles chairs and mirrors broke powder filled the room with smoke
soon we'll dance and laugh and joke cause she told me that she needed a man
i- met her out in abilene like nothin that i'd ever seen
her -hair was curled her eyes wer green and she told me that she needed a man

if you dont feel those old time things
and theve gone and sailed away
if the pages wont turn back again
than i guess our stories comin to end

On My Roads

headin- far on down the road

county- sherrif in the trees

now hes- in dust followin me

but ive got- muscle under my hood

he'll keep on- chasin do him no good

i know a- tight turn into an oak

so ill kick- dirt up like a cloud of smoke

you won't catch me on my roads

the dirt out hear is my home

you won't catch me on my roads

the turns out here bring me home

the roads out here are my home

time to- say goodbye to me

better- luck next time you see

our boys out- runnin shine again

just- remember that old oak tree bend

fifteen- gallons of liquid corn

been feelin- these turns since i was born

another- law dog out for a bust

but now hes- coughin up my dust

you won't catch me on my roads

the dirt out hear is my home

you won't catch me on my roads

the turns out here bring me home

the roads out here are my home

red and- blue lights in my mirror

but they dont- fill me up with fear

i keep on- drivin cool as the night

looks like he- wants a racin fight

down on the- pedal up through the gears

eyes filled up with adrenaline tears

dont want no- jail bars in my face

but i still- like a worthy chase

you won't catch me on my roads

the dirt out hear is my home

you won't catch me on my roads

the turns out here bring me home

the roads out here are my home

Overalls

cause i've been watin hopin i might see you
don't you know you've been in my head
cause i'll be a runnin hopin that i'll see you
and hopin that you'll call me friend

drivin out to the bay
trying to find a way
to tell you that you are in my head
leighin there it looks like sleep

don't you know you've been in my head
cause i'll be a runnin hopin that i'll see you
and hopin that you'll call me friend

i tried too hard and missed on every swing
but still you stood there at a lean
musta been bout seventeen
overalls and hair curlin down

cause i've been watin hopin i might see you
don't you know you've been in my head
cause i'll be a runnin hopin that i'll see you
and hopin that you'll call me friend

Palms And Pines

well ive been out ridin along since sunday
my tires flat i think my motors blown
so i focus on where i'll be next friday
and my mind starts bringin me back home

between the palms and the pines
bring me back to piece of mind
between the palms and the pines

well sometimes theres an ocean and a mountain
but sometimes you are left with none
but im feelin fine standin in the sunshine
and knowin ill feel fine when the day is done

between the palms and the pines
a childhood lost in time
between the palms and the pines

have you ever been out to californa
where the trees never let you feel alone
well somtimes i might go out on a journey
but when im gone it dont take long for me to miss my home

between the palms and the pines
a childhood lost in time
between the palms and the pines
bring me back to piece of mind
between the palms and the pines

some day i'll come on by and pass the mountain dew

went down to get my mule and myself a drink
but sam kicked me a foot or two and now i start to sink

some days i'm feellin good

some days i'm need someone to pass the mountain dew

stood me up tall on the saddle i did ride
kick away my mule named sam and now im here to die

some days i'm feellin good
some days i'm blue
some days i'm need someone to pass the mountain dew
some day i'll come on by and pass the mountain dew

Payin' Dues

theres blood on my fingers and blood on my hands
my strings are all about to break
can someone please come and tell me now
how long this all should take
but if that ship never sails my way
don't worry its alright
cause theres no place that id rather be
than standin with you here tonight

singin the blues
while im payin my dues
standin on the stage of this bar
singin the blues
while im payin my dues
strummin on this old guitar

you stand on the stage with your heart in hand
lights puttin sweat on your face
you always think that you'll find your way
and everything will fall in to place
will it be one song maybe two
or ten thousand before i find
the right place for me in this world
before i lose my mind

singin the blues
while im payin my dues
standin on the stage of this bar
singin the blues
while im payin my dues
strummin on this old guitar
singin the blues
while im payin my dues
pickin on this old guitar

theres blood on my fingers and blood on my hands
my strings are all about to break
can someone please come and tell me now
how long this all should take
but if that ship never sails my way
don't worry its alright
cause theres no place that id rather be
than standin with you here tonight

singin the blues
while im payin my dues
standin on the stage of this bar
singin the blues
while im payin my dues
strummin on this old guitar
singin the blues

Playin' To The Bartendar

last night i stood on the stage and people were cryin
reachin their hands out for a touch of our boots they were tryin
felt like a king for a couple of hours that night
watchin some men brakin bottles of beer in a fight

i looked to my sides and the rest of the band felt the same
we thought we had finally cralled our ways up to fame
so many years of pickin on this old guitar
and playin our hearts out to the walls of an empty bar

last night i played to the biggest crowd i can remember
but tonight im just playin out to a lonely bartendar

couldnt wait to set up and plug in to play out tonight
but no ones in the bar at the door or even in sight
we start a little late hopin that they're all on their way
but we can only hold off so long if we wanna get paid

the bartendars wipin down things that are already clean
wathcin a show on the t.v. shes already seen
we play our best song to the bartendar out there alone
while she  leans on the bar textin a friend on her phone

last night i played to the biggest crowd i can remember
but tonight im just playin out to a lonely bartendar

the bartendar goes outside for a puff of some smoke
the band looks at each other thinkin this must be a joke
playin to pool tables empty stools and a t.v.
i guess that we're gettin paid to practice our humility

we thought that we finally made it with the show last night
thougth we'd be fightin off flashes from camera lights
but instead we stand here playin to a girl at the bar
and shes only here to pay for her rent and her car

last night i played to the biggest crowd i can remember
but tonight im just playin out to a lonely bartendar
Poor Old Boy

one man died for another
she was a wife and a mother
please tell her I'm on my way

out of this cold world
where no one can be trusted
this whole worlds hearts become rusted
theres no way that i want to stay
here on my on

poor old boy my friend
she was in the arms of another man
he was away givin his life
for the soul of the man that was lovin his wife
for the soul of the man that was lovin his wife

he got the word from his brothers
that she'd turned down no others
believe me they felt the pain

of that one man that died for another
she was a wife and a mother
please tell her I'm on my way
I'm on my way

poor old boy my friend
she was in the arms of another man
he was away givin his life
for the soul of the man that was lovin his wife
for the soul of the man that was lovin his wife

poor old boy my friend
she was in the arms of another man
he was away givin his life
for the soul of the man that was lovin his wife
for the soul of the man that was lovin his wife

Radio Lights

drivin down the road tonight
watchin everybody walkin through the lights
through the lights
looks like everyone tonight
is feelin just a little better about their lives
about their lives
everyone in the bar tonight
is dancin to the music in the lights

drivin through the country now
listenin to the radio in the night
in the night
the only thing that i feel now
is the warmth of the glow from the am radio lights
radio lights
now I'm sittin hear look up at the sky
and now i know that everything will be alright

the rains not here but i don't mind
cause i love the feel of drivin on a summer night
summer night
on my way back in to town
now i see the glow of the city lights
city lights
the air is warm and the lights are bright
and now i know that everything will be alright
Red River

my baby said I'm not goin' down that rivers edge
i said you go down to that water and wash out all that red
she said you know i think you done wrong killin' off that man
i said now go and wash those clothes off and i'll go wash my hands

i woke up feelin' somethin' strange
i sat up in my bed
the sun is gold and the trees are green
but the river now runs red

i went down to the rivers edge to see why it still bleed
i burnt my clothes and washed my hands and locked up my old shed
seven suns have passed my face and the river still runs red
when people see the river flowin' they'll know that someones dead

i woke up feelin' somethin' strange
i sat up in my bed
the sun is gold and the trees are green
but the river now runs red

a man went runnin' to the sherriff screemin' i've seen red
he said if you go down to the river i think someone is dead
theres a mountain man that lives down yonder deep in indian land
and i think he knows why that old river now is runnin red

if you head up north to indian land
and down to the rivers edge
the sun is gold and the trees are green
but the river now runs red

they went down to the rivers edge to find that mountain man
always feels like someones watchin' up in indian land
they found his cabin bare and empty coals still burning red
before that mountain men went runnin he burnt down that old shed

if you head up north to indian land
and down to the rivers edge
the sun is gold and trees are green
but the river now runs red

Ridin' On The Waves

count on the hands
or spend your time in caves
theres one thing we're all
ridin on the waves

just follow the wind
or think that your a slave
when you realise
your ridin on the waves
ridin on the waves

born a lucky man
or dead where you leigh
cause its not up to you
ridin on the waves

countin on the hands
watch it float away
feel the up and down
your ridin on the waves
ridin on the waves

leave you standin there
wet from the spray
torn and broaken down
ridin on the waves

you know a crazy thing
if you are alive
the strong will always stay
your ridin on the waves
ridin on the waves

Risin' Sun

tell me that you need a friend
a friend like me
i sure don't need much but i
still do need

pack up all the tools
cause your day is done
come back in the mornin
with the risin sun
with the risin

flyin off the corners of the
painted lines
motorcycles sure can help you
lose your mind

you woke up that feelin in your
heads begun
im back here this mornin
with the risin sun
with the risin

i went out tonight but the
scene is dead
no one cares anymore whats
in her head

he don't know her name
but he'll know the one
that will soon spend the mornins
with the risin sun
the risin

Runnin' Man

i tire of the same old roads

i need to see somethin new

a sky of another shade

maybe without you

tie me up with this rope

and lock me up with these chains

throw me into a cage

cause you know im a runnin man

the sky is always too blue

the clouds a far too white

bring me down in the grey

where i feel alright

tie me up with this rope

and lock me up with these chains

throw me into a cage

cause you know im a runnin man

im sittin here feelin so dull

dont know what happen to you

i thought that you were the one

but now my heart doesnt move

tie me up with this rope

and lock me up with these chains

throw me into a cage

cause you know im a runnin man

its hard to stay in one place

when you were born with a sail

you feel the wind pullin hard

tearin you away of the trails

tie me up with this rope

and lock me up with these chains

throw me into a cage

cause you know im a runnin man

Sailing

six long years ago
i packed up my life in a bag
i walked down to the sea
and I went sailing
sailing far from the world that fed me my fears
that haunted me through all the years

i was headed for warmer waters
for things that i'd never seen
was tired of following others
so i went sailing
sailing far from the world that fed me my fears
that haunted me through all the years

six long years today
im coming back from the sea
im tired of running away
so now im sailing
sailing back to the world that made me who i am
now my life can begin

Sail On In

well ive been out too far in the ocean
to even know where i am
i think my heads empty like an old coconut
with the sun cookin on my skin

cause its time to pull up anchor and a sail on in
cause its time to pull up anchor and a sail on in

well i came out to find some piece of mind
but now i know its just a waste of time
i coulda been runnin round chasin pretty woman
while im still here in my prime

cause its time to pull up anchor and a sail on in
cause its time to pull up anchor and a sail on in

well sometimes i get bored on the land
and i think i need to float away
but i drilled a hole in my boat to send it sinkin
down to the bottom of the bay

cause its time to pull up anchor and a sail on in
cause its time to pull up anchor and a sail on in

well ive been out too far in the ocean
to even know where i am
i think my heads empty like an old coconut
with the sun cookin on my skin

cause its time to pull up anchor and a sail on in
cause its time to pull up anchor and a sail on in

Sam's Town

When I was a young boy
I would take a quarter
Put it in the arcade
And we would laugh all day Ha Ha
Santa Cruz

well i met you today but i can see in your face
that your a good woman that wasn't made for this place

and we'll end up with our feet down in the sand

if you told me today you had nothin left to lose
id take you with me down to santa cruz
id take you with me down to santa cruz

we'll just sit here a while with some coffee and a smile
and think about if you want to ride those miles
when the waitress drops the bill im headin down the hill
id like you to come with me if you will

if you told me today you had nothin left to lose
id take you with me down to santa cruz
id take you with me down to santa cruz

well we're listen to some tunes while we're headin for the dunes

and you had nothin left to lose
and im takin you with me down to santa cruz
im takin you with me down to santa cruz

and we had nothin left to lose
im glad you came with down me to santa cruz
im glad you came with me to santa cruz
Say Goodbye

driving down the road and i feel fine
lights are in my eyes now
left her in the cold and i will go running in the rain

playing all the games that i don't know
stick the knife in deep and show
me that you are the one to love and that your love is real

so say goodbye and don't you try to come along
you had your chance a second try but you done wrong

knockin on my door i say hello
but your not here to say hello
leave me on my own so you can cry
im not hear to hold you

so say goodbye and don't you try to come along
you had your chance a second try but you done wrong

driving down the road and i feel fine
lights are in my eyes now
left her in the cold and i will go running in the rain

playing all the games that i don't know
stick the knife in deep and show
me that you are the one to love and that your love is real

so say goodbye and don't you try to come along
you had your chance a second try but you done wrong

so say goodbye and don't you try to come along
you had your chance a second try but you done wrong

Scorpions

out there in the desert
they're waitin there with a deadly sting
they'll trick you with a flower
you reach down with the wonder that it brings

cause the scorpions in the desert
can bring you back that old familiar sting
so watch yourself when your walking
whistling and singing in the streets

follow the road thats empty
with only a few random waves
dont let the shiny objects
distract you from where you need to be

cause the scorpions in the desert
can bring you back that old familiar sting
so watch yourself when your walking
whistling and singing in the streets

and the snakes are always watching
so don't go making anymore mistakes
you may think that your an angel
but fallen forever you could be

dont go askin questions
you dont really want an answer to
seems like a waste a your time
just to make you feel like you do

cause the scorpions in the desert
can bring you back that old familiar sting
so watch yourself when your walking
whistling and singing in the streets

Seven People

7 people died in the mornin'
people that walk and breathe like us
7 people died eatin' breakfast
while they were sittin' in the back of a bus

i tried to watch the news on the t.v.
but i looked down at my dog on the floor
and i said i think we might be gettin' bad reception
to these brains that keep on bringin' us into war

some people pray to jesus
some people pray to allah
but im tired of seein' people dyin'
over the name of what they call a peacefull god

now i know sometimes war must happen
when theres a man runnin' round like a rabid dog
when he tries infecting other people
hes got to be laid down beneath the sod

i try to be a peacefull sort person
but im still just a human man
and i still think we're all wild creatures
but lets try and share this place the best we can

Shave

somtimes i like to grow a beard long and thick
other times i like to shave my face smooth and slick
but somtimes i shave a little too close to the skin
one of these days i may shave myself a permanent grin

well im starin in the mirror with a straight edge in my hand
half my face is pale and white the other dark and tanned
i never met a barber anywhere in this land
that i would trust with a razor on the throat of a wanted man

i've got a tattoo of a woman on the skin of my chest
that shares a strange resemblence to a woman far out west
a name was roughly written with a needle and some ink
but you'll never hear me speak of her until i start to drink

i ride alone in the dark can't ride in the day
i long for a woman that i know won't go stray
i never met a woman anywhere in this land
that i would trust with the life and heart of a wanted man

my throat is dry my tongue is crisp from bein a sober man
cause i can't trust a drink thats been poured by a strangers hand
i held up a wagon that was headed into town
it was packed up full of whiskey and it was shinin golden brown

somtimes i like to grow a beard long and thick
other times i like to shave my face smooth and slick
but somtimes i shave a little too close to the skin
one of these days i may shave myself a permanent grin
somtimes i shave a little too close to the skin

Ship In The Woods

hang the flag and pull it up
through these waves of trees we cut
captains rank is played by two
discipline is good for you
livin on a ship in the woods
livin on a ship in the woods

climb a tree and feel the wind
somethin sturin deep within
faces you just know of four
rarely do you go ashore
livin on a ship in the woods
livin on a ship in the woods

sleep out on the deck at night
stars you'll find em mighty bright
see a hawk fly up above
red tail is a captains love
livin on a ship in the woods
livin on a ship in the woods

deck is dry and breakin down
brand new planks or you will drown
with a hammer nails you pound
livin on a ship in the woods
livin on a ship in the woods

Single Man

i was walkin down the street
i saw a girl she was walking towards me
she was a sippin on a soda boppin down the sidewalk and chewin on some bubble gum
so i looked up high in a tree
so she couldn't lock eyes with me
cause i know that she'll be trouble
maybe even double
i need to stay a single man

i was sippin on a coffee today
sittin in an old cafe
when the waitress took my order i had to hold the menu like a horse blinder for my face
cause she had jet black shiny hair
and i didn't see a ring anywhere
but i know that she'll be trouble
maybe even double
i need to stay a single man

i went to the market today
i heard her cart was rattlin my way
she was a real summer cutie sippin on a smoothie fillin her cart with men
my heart growls hungry again
her purse growls hungry for men
so i know that she'll be trouble
maybe even double
i need to stay a single man
it ain't easy stayin a single man

Sittin' In This Saloon

i've done wrong again
i'm sittin hear
all alone
goin' broke
sittin in this saloon
goin' broke
sittin in this saloon
im on my own
sittin on this stool

Sixteen Wheels

we dance in the room in the moring light
to the music on the old radio
and you look up into my eyes
and tell me you love me so

we go out for a walk today
walkin' through the woods
we both look up at the sun in the sky
and you tell me you love me so

we look outside and we see it's rain
but we don't want to stay inside
so we go outside and dance in the rain
and you tell me you love me so

well i can't wait to wake up everyday
to see you in my life
maybe someday we can build a home
in the woods and i can make you my wife

i'm drivin' home on these sixteen wheels
and i can't wait to get back home
just ten more miles and i'll be happy again
when you tell me you love me so

well you wait on the porch with some coffee in your hand
and you smile as i step down
i can tell in your eyes that you've missed me too
and you know that i love you so

Smilin' Man

mamas boy and daddys son is gone
signed away his name for four years long
thought he'd be a hero in the sand
fightin' like a warrior for his land

but now he's gone
now he's gone
now he's gone

everyone called him the smilin' man
he'd pat you on the back and shake your hand
and if you ever meet the smilin' man
he'll take away your life where you stand

the smilin' man
smilin' man
smilin' man

he used to be too busy for all them
he never knew how much they all loved him
but it was too late when he finally wanted them
now he wishes he could do it all again

cause now they're gone
now they're gone
now they're gone

i hope on the day i ride away with death
he comes into my home and finds me there
holdin' my guitar in my old chair

singin' a song
singin' a song
now i'm gone
Snakehole

she walked in smokin on a cigarette
with a pillbox on her head
i leaned back in my chair and sipped my drink
while i listened to the words she said

she said find a man heres some money take a gun
theres vermon that you need to kill
five thousand dollars gona pay your way
now tell me that you will

the sweat poured down my empty face
while i reached out an opened a droor
i said yes ma'am i think i'll take this job
while i loaded up my 44

she said he lives up town take a taxi there
you'll find him there in his room
every night he goes down the lounge
they pay him there to push on a broom

she turned back around and i watched her go
with a goodbye puff of smoke
i finished my drink and i headed out
with the gun sittin in my coat

she said find a man heres some money take a gun
theres vermon that you need to kill
five thousand dollars gona pay your way
now tell me that you will

the man at the bar said he's in room ten
down at the end a the hall
i kicked in the door fired all six shots
and i stood there and watched him fall

she said he lives up town take a taxi there
you'll find him there in his room
every night he goes down the lounge
they pay him there to push on a broom

Some Dead Men Do Tell Tales

i guess some dead men do tell tales
i guess some dead men do tell tales

well i shot a man but he never bleed
i didn't know that he was already dead
he sold his soul to the devil's hand
his skin was pale and his teeth stained red

he saw me shoot down another man
that man had won the last thirteen hands
i had to shoot him he was cheatin' me
he had three spare aces hiddin' up his sleeve

so i shot him down and he's dead on the floor
he ain't gona cheat no one no more
but the other man saw me shoot him down
now the words gona spread all over town

i guess some dead men do tell tales
i guess some dead men do tell tales

i tried to shoot him down again
but he just looked up with a deadly grin
his voice was deap like a funeral bell
and he said his soul's already in hell

he said i sleep at day and live at night
he said now your worth money dead or alive
but i think i might keep you for myself
my stomaches growlin' from the blood i smell

i shot three more bullets through the man
i had one shot left in my shakin hand
it went through his coat and into the wall
it was a silver bullet and i watched him fall

this dead man will tell no tales
but some dead men do to tales
some dead men do to tales

Son Of A Gun

i walked up to the jailhouse saw my picture on the wall
poster said blonde hair blue eyes standin 6 feet tall
five hundred is the reward if you catch him on the run
hes a
guitar slingin folk singin son of a gun
guitar slingin folk singin son of a gun

the wanted poster listed all my crimes up on the wall
even if i had nine lives i never could a done them all
bounty hunters sneakin round their searchin has begun
for that
guitar slingin folk singin son of a gun
guitar slingin folk singin son of a gun

the mayor of the town saw my eye for betty lou
she worked down at the hotel and her love for me he knew
so he made a list of crimes that he knew i'd never done
hopin that i'd end up either dead or on the run
im a
guitar slingin folk singin son of a gun
guitar slingin folk singin son of a gun

the mayor went to the hotel to find his betty lou
but she was gone away from him and this he surely knew
she'd spend her life a movin and always on the run
with her
guitar slingin folk singin son of a gun
with her
guitar slingin folk singin son of a gun
im a
guitar slingin folk singin son of a gun

Southern Wine

ive got lead in my leg from a musket flash
i woke up in smoke with the taste of grass
i hear a lone bugle sadly singin out
sayin run men run todays a win for the south

them gray back boys had me locked up in chains
they were messin with my head tryin to twist on my brain
but a nurse came in she was to patch up my wounds
but she gave me a kiss and said they'll be hangin you soon

i was just a northern boy
down past the southern line
there ain't nothin' left in life to enjoy
once you taste that southern wine

i woke up to the sound of men marchin through
i peeked up through the window and them boys were all blue
i just leaned back and kept my head down low
and played like a dead man headin down below

i was sittin in a saloon sippin on a drink
when a dance hall girl came out dressed all in pink
i said im a gentlmen excuse me miss
i'll give you my life and my heart for a kiss

i was just a northern boy
down past the southern line
there ain't nothin' left in life to enjoy
once you taste that southern wine

an old man sittin on the front of his porch
rockin in his chair whistlin back and forth
a young boy walks up widdlin on some wood
and says hey mister tell me tell me somethin good

how can i end up a happy man like you
i see so many other men dyin from the blues
tell me the secret to life before im dead
the old man just smiled huh and then he said

i was just a northern boy
down past the southern line
there ain't nothin' left in life to enjoy
once you taste that southern wine

Summer Days

findin the way to go
with a skippin stone
yes its back once again
the summers days
fishin poles and dirt road strolls
whistlin that tune again
find some shade and kick em up
the summers days

fill that old bucket up
cause they can't use a cup
strummin on a wet guitar
the summers days
cool on down time for a swim
everybodies divin in
sleepin outside once again
the summers days

sittin on the old tailgate
watchin fireworks
drive ins her we come again
the summer days
fishin poles and dirt road strolls
whistlin that tune again
find some shade and kick em up
the summers days

Sunshine Blues

i put them on to help light i

see through the day i need it darker

and they will stay there till the stars

come out and shine i need it darker

bring those clowds in with the rain

so i can relax through this day

if the ground becomes my favorite view

then you know ive got the sunishine blues

down with the lights bring them down so

low cause i i need it darker

the grey is fine the storm will wake me

up alive cause i need it darker

bring those clowds in with the rain

so i can relax through this day

if the ground becomes my favorite view

then you know ive got the sunishine blues

i put them on to help light i

see through the day i need it darker

and they will stay there till the stars

come out and shine i need it darker

bring those clowds in with the rain

so i can relax through this day

if the ground becomes my favorite view

then you know ive got the sunishine blues

Sword

she was a princess locked away

in a dungeon so dark and cold

i took my shield i took my sword

i headed on down the road

5 10 20 men

i cut down to size

i broke the lock that held her door

and saw her weary eyes

she looked up and said to me

hurry and cut these ropes

i took my blade and sawed away

and for a kiss i hoped

she leaned in her lips i felt

without a word she spoke

+ when birds fly up so high

the devils on its way

and you will know with sign of crow

the devils on its way

i raised her up onto a horse

and road along her side

a serpeant lives in the woods

into its home we ride

the bravest knights and kings im told

stories of hell ive heard

their armor filled up with bones

a death not drawn by words

the sharpest peak of mountains found

to choose your hopefull path

but few have ever made it through

without a firey bath

its ears and eyes tunes so fined

twitching at every move

some will try for the other side

some try for somethin to prove

+ when birds fly up so high

the devils on its way

and you will know with sign of crow

the devils on its way

the sky turns orange but clowds move in

a storm is brewing above

a burst of crows fly away

the beast lives sure enough

royal silks torn on a girl

a man with armor and blade

shield blocks flame while sword it cuts

hoping their lives it saves

an armor of skin the beast it wears

but he carries the sharpest of blades

a burst of flames scream through the trees

in the dirt he leighs

knocked to the ground it goes for the kill

but sword is thrust above

through the searpant it slides once more

and finished with a final shove

+ when birds fly up so high

the devils on its way

and you will know with sign of crow

the devils on its way

The Bear

the bear is standin on the grass
star above his head
written down below the ground
will tell you where he is

green and red white and brown
the colors of the flag
raise it up and watch it fly
like many others have

teeth are sharp nails the same
eyes are watchin you
listenin to the things we say
and watchin what we do

standin there makin sure
the grass is always green
protector of the land we love
a friend to you and me

a heart thats wild but its kind
protecting all the land
from the desert to the trees
to the water and the sand

the star will always shine above
to help him find his way
the bear he never sleeps a wink
roamin night and day

The Darkness

if you ever want to get out of darkness
if you ever want to save your life
then you've got to feel your way through the darkness
cause i swear somewhere theres light

well i went up to the top of a mountain
and i talked to an old witch there
she said i'll take you deep down in the darkness
but your on your own once your there

if you ever want to get out of darkness
if you ever want to save your life
then you've got to feel your way through the darkness
cause i swear somewhere theres light

well i went downtown for somethin
i went down to an antique store
i wispered that the password was shadow
and they let me drink behind their doors

if you ever want to get out of darkness
if you ever want to save your life
then you've got to feel your way through the darkness
cause i swear somewhere theres light

well i went down to a show at the circus
and i saw woman looking at me
she said now won't you follow me back in darkness
and ill show you everything you could be

if you ever want to get out of darkness
if you ever want to save your life
then you've got to feel your way through the darkness
cause i swear somewhere theres light

well if the devil takes you down to the river
and he tells you just what to do
just jump into the rushing water
cause that devils playin tricks on you

if you ever want to get out of darkness
if you ever want to save your life
then you've got to feel your way through the darkness
cause i swear somewhere theres light

The DMV

--some think hell is under the ground--
some think it can not be seen
others say its just in your head
but i found hell down at the DMV
i found hell down at the DMV

well they wouldnt let me in through the front door
said this clubs got a set dress code
so i walked away a hangin my head
and went to change my clothes back home

i came back wearin some old sweat pants
and i made sure not brush my teath
i wiped off all my deodorant
and headed back down the street

i walked in through the two front doors
there was one seat left for me
it was stuck right between two sick woman
trying to blow away their sneeze

seventeen young kids runnin around
making dirty faces up at me
their parents don't seem to care a bit
i doubt its they just don't see

every time they call a new number
we all look up with hope
even though we know we still got a couple hours
what a dirty little mental joke

--some think hell is under the ground--
some think it can not be seen
others say its just in your head
but i found hell down at the DMV
i found hell down at the DMV

they call b027
and a girl stands up real proud
she walks up with her nose in the air
just to rub it in to the rest of the crowd

she heads on by with an attitude
and she sends a smerk down to me
like she one a big price on a t.v. show
mabye a trip across the sea

but i don't mind really too much
cause the joke ain't on me
little did she know that the prize she won
was that the devil works window 3

waiting for my number go19
starin at the big blue screen
finally calls my number says winow 5
boy that woman sure looks mean

i said ive got to take a the written test
for a two wheeled bike machine
the first question asked whos the king of spain
what the heck is that got to do with me

--some think hell is under the ground--
some think it can not be seen
others say its just in your head
but i found hell down at the DMV
i found hell down at the DMV

i went in to see my doctor
said im depressed with anxiety
he said theres no cure my son
accept to steer clear of the DMV

so i went home feelin a little better
thought i just keep away real far
till i noticed the tags were up
on my chevy and my car

so i spent the next week a you know where
i don't even wanna say its name
and it left me with the ptsd
i never quite fealt the same

i went to my doctor once again
said ive got rash on my knee
he said the only time ive seen a rash like that
was from a day spent at DMV

--some think hell is under the ground--
some think it can not be seen
others say its just in your head
but i found hell down at the DMV
i found hell down at the DMV

The Great Recession

i walked into the bank to take some money out
she said you aint got no more money in this bank account
i said please tell me now just what your talkin' about
what happen' to my money won't you tell me now

she said its long gone baby its long gone
its been that way for some time
she said its long gone baby its long gone
didnt you hear the news that theres a great recession alive

i was sittin' on a stool in a local bar
a stranger bought me a drink on his credit card
he said he never thought he'd ever have to walk so far
i said whats the matter mister don't you own a car

he said its long gone man its long gone
the bank took away my ride
he said its long gone man its long gone
so lets drink and laugh away the great recession tonight

i started talkin' to a man that was a nervous wreck
he said they cut him off from gettin' unemployment checks
i guess that it was too much for his girl to accept
cause she left the next mornin' on an eastbound jet

and now shes long gone man shes long gone
flyin' to another man
and now shes long gone man shes long gone
i said lets drink and laugh away the great recession tonight

i looked up to the bartender and what did i see
it was the president mixin' up drinks for me
i said what happened to your home on pennsylvania street
he said i guess the people here weren't happy with me

cause now its long gone man its long gone
they kicked me outta my home
he said its long gone man its long gone
so let me mix you up another great recession tonight

The Last Straw (Gomer)

shave the hair off his head and give hime a gun
and send him off there with some lead to find him some fun
they yelled at him they called him names they told him he was dumb
but they'd all find out soon enough just what they'd all begun
push him here and poke him there your pushin' in his head
they beat him up with sox and soap and  held him to his bed
some things are stories but this one is a fact
this was the straw that broke the camels back

when he was young hid daddy worked him hard out on the farm
he said i'll work you till you build up muslces on those arms
his daddy tried to make him be the man he never was
but he was soft polite and kind and held in all the shoves

push him here and poke him there your pushin' in his head
they beat him up with sox and soap and  held him to his bed
some things are stories but this one is a fact
this was the straw that broke the camels back

his old man made him go and try out for the team
he hoped the helmet and shoulder pads would help him grow up mean
they trew him in to the walls of the locker room
slowy building up his mind for a bloody doom

push him here and poke him there your pushin' in his head
they beat him up with sox and soap and  held him to his bed
some things are stories but this one is a fact
this was the straw that broke the camels back

he liked to paint and write down words college was his plan
but his daddy told him pack it up your headin off to NAM
his daddy tried to make him be the man he never was
but he was soft polite and kind and held in all the shoves

push him here and poke him there your pushin' in his head
they beat him up with sox and soap and  held him to his bed
some things are stories but this one is a fact
this was the straw that broke the camels back

the last straw was on his back his brain had come undone
in his underwear and undershirt he loaded up his gun
the sergant came in screamin so he sent him off to sleep
then he did himself the same and now his daddy has to weep

push him here and poke him there your pushin' in his head
they beat him up with sox and soap and  held him to his bed
some things are stories but this one is a fact
this was the straw that broke the camels back

The Man Behing The Gun

lets stop fighting wars that our great grandads begun
lets leigh down our swords and find ourselves some fun
well you say that fightins fun and a war you'd like to start
well its all fun until you got a  bullet in your heart
well you say that you won't die cause your a hero and a man
well lots of heros die every year in every land
so wake up you fool and look down at your hands
and tell me if those were meant to kill another man
would you kill a man because you just don't understand
the ways of his tribe that are livin' in his land
cause only cowards shoot down things they don't understand
cause they're scared the snake might bite while the snakes scared of your hand
so just go on your way and don't come back again
until you've grown yourself a brain then i'll shake upon your hand
now we've got a lot of hate in all people accross the land
and every tribes been wronged from the mountains to the sand
so lets throw away the hate thats been passed down to our hands
and together we will grow and together we will stand
well i keep to myself and im not a social kind of man
but i'd still like hear my enemies call me friend
well i've had times of darkness filled with anger and hate
but i'd hate myself today if i never opened up the gate
and let in all the ways and the thoughts of everyone
to realise that we've all got a lot of learin' still to come
but stay tough enough to protect your wife daughter and son
and don't fear the tool fear the man behind the gun

The Man She Loved

if you were to ask her
you would hear her say
that he was once the man i loved

the sheriff said now sunny
tell me where you been
cause someones left a girl here dead

no one knows her name
and no one knows her face
but someones gona cry that shes dead

go up to the sheriff
and tell him who i am
and tell him im the man she loved

ill read to you a letter
it'll tell you just the same
and she signed it to the man i love

theres less fish than gamblers
in the river through this town
and most of them will end up dead and drowned

there like snakes in the water
tryin make their way
you never know when one will gun you down

i know you think i done it
but i loved that woman so
i know the gamblin man that shot her down

they found her on the shore
with a shot below the heart
i was once the man she loved

there was a dark hair gambler
used to follow her around
and i tell you hes the man that gunned her down

i told her in a letter
that i'd soon be back in town
and she'd be the only woman i would love

i hope she read my letter
before i got to town
and before the night the gambler gunned her down

if you were to ask her
you would hear her say
that he was once the man i loved

they found her on the shore
with a shot below the heart
i was once the man she loved

The Plank

time has gone and flown away
leaving with me much to say
down this plank here i will go
say goodbye to all i know

blade stands sharp just like a wall
screaming curses while i fall
you all know i've done no wrong
still you leave me one man strong

soon my new world will be dark
sleeping tightly in a shark
on this plank i see the waves
and i've sure seen better days

The Way

when bone is met by lead
and screams are in his head
you sit and watch as it fades away

another flower gone
taps played with guns along
your first real look into an early grave

i hear you in my head
i feel you in my chest
gona love you all the way
gona love you all the way

every man that came to town
asked where she could be found
and they promised her the endless skys

her carriage came to town
she slowly joined the ground
shed smiled at you through her eyes

i hear you in my head
i feel you in my chest
gona love you all the way
gona love you all the way

when stood with glass in hand
and feet on steady land
i hear you there calling out my name

when nature boils red
and death is over head
my bones will sleep below the waves

i hear you in my head
i feel you in my chest
gona love you all the way
gona love you all the way

two penny life
leigh my bones down
two penny life
so i can see

The Way It Should

last night i went walking in the dark
down a dirt road in the night
i brought myself a candle and wick
and a box of matches cause i need a light

i walked up tall and i saw the tower
with the man in it watchin down on me
but soon he'd flyin through the sky so far
like a bear fallin out of a tree

now its burnin
fallin spinnin
goin down the way it should
thunder is crashin lightnin is flashin
goin down the way it should
goin down the way it should

there was a bike on the side of the road for me
it was a german r4 made for two
so i kicked up some dirt and i tore down the rode
on my way to find somethin to do

the man in the tower was huntin game
20 shot dead in the last two weeks
hes paid to bag the game and its all the same
but he didn't know that i was trained to sneak

now its burnin
fallin spinnin
goin down the way it should
thunder is crashin lightnin is flashin
goin down the way it should
goin down the way it should

it was late september when the trucks pulled in
with the lumber and the men to do the job
it took um three days and a ten man wage
workin in the sun with their saws

workin like beavers on twig built dam
knowin eveything they must do
they've gotta build a tower for a man to stand
in his office with a gun and view

but now its burnin
fallin spinnin
goin down the way it should
thunder is crashin lightnin is flashin
goin down the way it should
goin down the way it should

  The Weekend

wake up slowly and i open my eyes
leighin on a couch and i don't know why
check my pockets for keys and money
tint those eyes cause the worlds too sunny

i don't feel good and i don't feel bad
i don't feel happy but i don't feel sad
headin back home gota leave this city
where the drinks ain't cheap but the girls are pretty

i can't wait for the weekend
so i can wake up and say i ain't never gona drink again
i can't wait for the weekend
so i can wake up and say i ain't never gona drink again

we went out looking for a brand new bar
spent the first long hour tryin to park the car
waitin for ink pressed on my skin
from the cowboy lettin all the cattle in

started out with just a couple ah beers
threw the whiskey in now i got 2 years
got more bars than i couldnt ever need
but theres no one here to mix drinks for me

i can't wait for the weekend
so i can wake up and say i ain't never gona drink again
i can't wait for the weekend
so i can wake up and say i ain't never gona drink again

2 years gone and im back again
standin in a bar with the same old friends
stars light up and the sun goes down
the worlds your friend if your buying rounds

i don't feel good and i don't feel bad
i don't feel happy but i don't feel sad
headin back in to the busy city
where the drinks ain't cheap but the girls are pretty

i can't wait for the weekend
so i can wake up and say i ain't never gona drink again
i can't wait for the weekend
so i can wake up and say i ain't never gona drink again
i'm gettin ready for the weekend
so i can wake up and say i ain't never gona drink again

Thought You Were Gone

i was alone
but now you've come back to me
i thought you were gone
now you stand here with me
now you stand here with me

you say that you have changed
but i don't know if thats true
cause when i look in your eyes
i see whats in it for you
i see whats in it for you

The Rain

the suns so hot and here too long
but the rain is movin in

the sidwalk burns through my shoes
but the rain is movin in
but the rain is movin in
but the rain is movin in

my truck broke down outside of town
at least the rain is movin in

my crops all died and so will i
at least the rain is movin in
at least the rain is movin in
at least the rain is movin in

the creeks run dry no fault of mine
i hope the rain is movin in

i leigh awake alone in my bed
i hope the rain is movin in
i hope the rain is movin in
i hope the rain is movin in

There He Goes

i saw a man today shot down in his home
and i watched him fall on down leighin all alone
there he goes
there he goes
and now i've lost my dream
and now i've lost my dream

poor man he had no name
wore no fame just old
shot down in the rain
left there in the cold
there he goes
there he goes
and now i've lost my dream
and now i've lost my dream

he sat there callin all our names
but we just walked on by
woman and children passed him by
nobody even cried
there he goes
there he goes
and now i've lost my dream
and now i've lost my dream

that man was all our friends
and you just watched him
he was there with empty tears
someone won't you cry
now hes gone
now hes gone
and so are his dreams
and so are his dreams
and so are his dreams
The Rose With No Thorn

I was walkin' through a garden of roses today
and the smell filled up my head and i couldn't walk away
so i picked myself the prettiest rose i could see
but it dug deep into my hand and i watched it bleed

i've been searchin' in every garden since i was born
and i keep on tryin' to find the rose with no thorn

i was ridin' down a road on the back of my horse
two men were tryin to take away a woman by force
but when i went to help all three turned around intsead
she said give me your horse your saddle and money or your dead

i've been searchin' in every garden since i was born
and i keep on tryin' to find the rose with no thorn

i took Mary Ellen to the dance
i brought my hat and pressed my coat and pants
she took our tickets and went in with danny o'shea
they left me in my suit out in the rain

i've been searchin' in every garden since i was born
and i keep on tryin' to find the rose with no thorn

I was walkin' through a garden of roses today
and the smell filled up my head and i couldn't walk away
so i picked myself the prettiest rose i could see
but it dug deep into my hand and i watched it bleed

i've been searchin' in every garden since i was born
and my heart will tell me when i found what im lookin' for
cause i know someday im gona find the rose with no thorn

The Situation

well hold me in your arms
and tell me everything is fine
cause when they throw me in the water
and the water is too deep
i tell ya then ill need a good friend of mine
so tell me now
that everything is fine

cause ive been in this situation too many times

well take some weight off of me
and show me that the sun still shines
cause theyre gona keep a stackin rocks
i dont think theyll ever stop
this whole worlds lost its mind
so tell me now
that everything is fine

cause ive been in this situation too many times

well they put me up in a tree
so everyone in town could see
what happens to a person
when their situation worsens
and their left hangin from a vine
so tell me now
that everything is fine

cause ive been in this situation too many times

well my feet are startin to get warm
and i think i smell some burning pine
cause the water and the rocks
and the tree didnt work
so now theyre tryn to burn me out a their minds
so tell me now
that everything is fine

cause ive been in this situation too many times
cause ive been in this situation too many times
cause ive been in this situation too many times
Till The Day You Die

i'll love you till the day you die
and i'll love you when your in the sky
i'll love you till the day
that heaven takes you away

lookin' at you in the room
knowin' that you'll leave me soon
the curse of living a mortal life
nature takes away my bride
i can't keep you here with me
i'm gona have to watch you leave

i'll love you till the day you die
and i'll love you when your in the sky
i'll love you till the day
that heaven takes you away

i knew on the day i saw your face
that we'd fall in love and run away
but soon you'll be far up above
and i'm haunted by this curse of love
i knew that some day you'd be gone
an eternity i'd be alone

but i'll love you till the day you die
and i'll love you when your in the sky
i'll love you till the day
that heaven takes you away

i can still hear the chapel bells
singin' loud through all the hills
tellin' the world that we've found love
below a full moon up above
married in the dead of night
i can never see my bride in light

but i'll love you till the day you die
and i'll love you when your in the sky
i'll love you till the day
that heaven takes you away

Too Good To Be True

WELL I TELL YOU NOW THAT I CAN'T TRUST YOU
CAUSE BABY YOUR JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

i met you out in the old moon light
standin in the road broke down in the night
it was good that the motor in your car did die
so i could see your smile and the spark in your eyes

i was drivin you on back in to town
when i reached on over turned the radio down
you said don't do that i love this song
then i knew you were right and nothing was wrong

BUT I TELL YOU NOW THAT I CAN'T TRUST YOU
CAUSE BABY YOUR JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

i ask you if you like the music i love
and you tell me that you can't get enough
we like to sit around the same old bars
you drool like me over classic cars

we both like goin out and shootin our guns
lead and powder can sure be fun
blastin and shootin on soda cans
and if you wanna be my lady then ill be your man

BUT I TELL YOU NOW THAT I CAN'T TRUST YOU
CAUSE BABY YOUR JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

i know that you are good to me
but sometimes things are hard to see
when cupid comes and shoots his dart
my brain stops workin and i think with my heart

sometimes love can make a cloud
and fill me up with fear and doubt
every time i look at you
i know your good what should i do

CAUSE I TELL YOU NOW THAT I CAN'T TRUST YOU
CAUSE BABY YOUR JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

Trans Continental Railroad

i was sittin at a bar just a havin a drink
when a long tall beuty said hello with a wink
she sat right down and talkin bout things
how we were both there alone and not wearin rings

she said she came from ohio
ridin the trans continental railroad
the trans continental railroad
ridin the trans continental rails

she had nice tan skin and long brown hair
but i wondered why everyone was startin to stare
i didnt know why i was the butt of there jokes
until i saw adam left his apple in her throat

she said she came from ohio
ridin the trans continental railroad
the trans continental railroad
ridin the trans continental rails

i knew right then i'd have to be a jerk
and tell her im sorry but it aint gona work
she seemed real nice so i felt real bad
but i didnt want my kids to have a double dad

she said she came from ohio
ridin the trans continental railroad
the trans continental railroad
ridin the trans continental rails

there was a trucker playin cards puttin his money on chance
when she walked up to him and asked him for a dance
i tried to tell him where she came from
but he elbowed me back he was havin fun

i guess he knew she came from ohio
ridin the trans continental railroad
the trans contintental railraod
ridin the trans continental rails
T.V.

i hear a woman scream
or was it just the t.v.
did her man kill her down dead
or was it just the t.v.

did he catch her cheating now
or was it just the t.v.
i hear all the neighbors scream
i think it was the t.v.

sirens screaming through the night
or is it just the t.v.
i hear a thud against the wall
its probably just the t.v.

i hear running in the hall
i hope its just the t.v.
i hear pounding on my door
i hope its just the t.v.

i hear yelling through the door
someones watching t.v.
i start sweating from my nerves
i hope its just the t.v.

he breaks in threw my front door
guess its not the t.v.
i sit up alone in bed
it was just the t.v.
was it just the t.v.

Up Or Down

you made me smile so much when you were around
but i must say that sometimes you brought me down
i thought we would be together tilll the end
but now im not sure if i would even call you my friend

i met you when i needed a helpin hand
maybe you were just a crutch to help me stand
or maybe you were just a ship to carry me to land
i may never know but im tryin to understand

so i wave goodbye to someone i used to call my friend
maybe it wasnt the time and our paths will cross again
cross again

im not sure if i ever want to see you again
maybe i just need to let my heartache mend
i get so confused when i think about everywhere we've been
im not sure if i can even start to comprehend

sometimes i think that i can see you again
until i know all the thruths ill still defend
you and everything you meant to me
cause i won't tear you down till i know what i see

so i wave goodbye to someone i used to call my friend
maybe it wasnt the time and our paths will cross again
cross again

you made me smile so much when you were around
i may never know if you were bringin me up or down

Wash Away The Blood

he slid up to the bar and said
i'm lookin' for a man
that came in here a month ago
with a scar across his hand

well a man was here with a head hung low
and memories to lose
had a buffalo gun and he rarely spoke
covered in tattoos

i can never have a home
i can never love
my sins i wear across my skin
can't wash away the blood
i can never have a friend
i can never love
my sins i wear across my skin
can't wash away the blood

did he have a tattoo on is kneck
cheater is what it said
someone caught him hidin' cards
in the hat upon his head

i saw that tattoo on his kneck
but no one ever asked
someone filled his skin with ink
to show his sinful past

i can never have a home
i can never love
my sins i wear across my skin
can't wash away the blood
i can never have a friend
i can never love
my sins i wear across my skin
can't wash away the blood

used to say he ran around
with a mexicali dame
but last i heard she was headin north
with her head down in a train

well i heard that her sister
was the one up headin north
and shes still with him nursin' wounds
and watchin' on the fort

i can never have a home
i can never love
my sins i wear across my skin
can't wash away the blood
i can never have a friend
i can never love
my sins i wear across my skin
can't wash away the blood

When I Was Young

im sittin' in my car and im holdin in my breath
tryin' to make this feeling go away
i thought that it was right but now i know that it was wrong
but i guess it was worth the pain

so i turned the engine over and headed down the road
watchin' all the trees go by
tearin' down the road burnin' gasoline
tryin' to bring myself from low to high

but now its all just a memory
when the days were filled with fun
i keep on tryin' to find a way
back to the days when i was young
to the days when i was young

headin' through a tunnel i roll down the window
and yell out to no one
the lights are flyin by with concrete in the sky
i let my motor come undone

im comin' to the end i see the light again
and i remember that old blue sky
tearin' down the road with water in my eyes
tryin' to bring myself from low to high

but now its all just a memory
when the days were filled with fun
i keep on tryin' to find a way
back to the days when i was young
to the days when i was young

im sittin' in my car and im holdin in my breath
tryin' to make this feeling go away
i thought that it was right but now i know that it was wrong
but i guess it was worth the pain

so i turned the engine off on the side of the road
and watched a semi chuggin' by
i guess i was a fool when i thought i had a chance
to bring myself from low to high

but now its all just a memory
when the days were filled with fun
i keep on tryin' to find a way
back to the days when i was young
to the days when i was young
Where I Belong

im walkin out the door and i aint lookin back
i bought me a ticket and im rolllin down the tracks
theres a lot im leavin behind me
but im headed for a place where i can breath

im goin away to a place where i belong
im goin away to the place where i belong

i hopped off the train when i thought i found a town
that might be fine with me hangin round
but a shot came screemin over my head
i drew my gun and now hes dead

im goin away to a place where i belong
im goin away to the place where i belong

i ran up to the engineer
and said get this train movin outa here
bullets poundin on the train
pourin down on me like rain

im goin away to a place where i belong
im goin away to the place where i belong

been rollin 40 miles down these old tracks
thunder is a poundin to the lightnins flash
two men hopped the train sneakin up on me
their guns go off and now i bleed

im goin away to a place where i belong
im goin away to the place where i belong

Woman Blues

she wanted to go to the movies
she wanted to go to the mall
i found out she had two other guys helpin to pay for it all

but i dont need no woman, to take up all my time
i dont need no woman, spendin all my dimes

she said theres no more billy
she said theres no more fred
she said theres no more hank or frank
theres definately no more ted

but i dont need no woman, to keep me from my friends
so take your little backpack, and dont come back again

well im gona stay single
for the rest of my life
but look at that little blond over there
 wouldn't that be nice
now ive got myself a woman, it happens every time
theres no sense fightin it, or you'll lose your mind

Works Boots On

well im drivin home work boots on
untied on my way
dust and sweat on my clothes
just another day
stompin on the floorboard while im
listenin to the songs
that help to pass the time
so the drive here ain't so long

well i be wakin up tomorrow
and i'll do this all again
but i dont mind cause i know
my wife and kids depend
on this check i bringin home
every friday night
its all worth the pain when i
see them smilin bright

well im pullin in to work now
and im tyin up my boots
sound of air compressors fillin up
for guns to shoot
i open up my lunchbox and a
note is there i see
my wife says have a good day
now its off to work to me

well im drivin home work boots on
untied on my way
dust and sweat on my clothes
just another day
stompin on the floorboard while im
listenin to the songs
that help to pass the time
so the drive here ain't so long

You Don't Want My Heart

i'll do anything
anything for you
tell me what you want
what you want me to do

you mean everything everything to me
i want the same from you but you don't want my heart

i get warm inside
when you come in the room
wish that you'd look at me
the same way i look at you

you mean everything everything to me
i want the same from you but you don't want my heart

feel like you don't see
me even standing here
guess i'm not what you want
so i'll just stand clear

you mean everything everything to me
i want the same from you but you don't want my heart

i don't care how long i wait
for you to change your mind
as long as i end up here
holding you as mine

you mean everything everything to me
i want the same from you but you don't want my heart

you mean everything everything to me
i want the same from you but you don't want my heart

You Said That I Was Wrong

we went out on the town and we had a couple drinks
dancin to the band playin music in the street
i was havin quite a time and i thought you felt the same
but now your lookin sad and your startin to complain

you knew that i was right but you said that i was wrong
so you stand there in the dark standin all alone
you'll be tellin' all your friends that i was in the wrong
twisten all the truths when you know that i am gone

you said you'd rather be out laughin' with your friends
dancin' in the clubs with sophisticated men
i knew that you were tryin' to start another fight
so i turned around instead and i walked off in the night

you knew that i was right but you said that i was wrong
so you stand there in the dark standin all alone
you'll be tellin' all your friends that i was in the wrong
twisten all the truths when you know that i am gone

you called me on the phone and you said that you were wrong
and you can't take another day away from me alone
can i see you tonight is what you said to me
i said i'll come and have a drink but i'll probably have to leave

i met you for a drink and not to my suprise
your friends were all there lookin' deadly in the eyes
i knew that you had filled up their little heads with lies
sayin i am such a beast and you probably tried to cry

but you knew that i was right but you said that i was wrong
so you stand there in the dark standin all alone
you'll be tellin' all your friends that i was in the wrong
twisted all the truths when you know that i am gone

you knew that i was right but you said that i was wrong
so you stand there in the dark standin all alone
you'll be tellin' all your friends that i was in the wrong
twisted all the truths when you know that i am gone
